It’s official: neither Brilliant Minds or Stumble will be coming back for another season. The two struggling series have both been canceled, not that the news is likely to come as a surprise to fans of either series.
Brilliant Minds was pulled from NBC's schedule earlier this year ahead of its planned return following the 2026 Winter Olympics. At the time, NBC was adamant no decision had been made about the show's future; however, the move was one that made it clear a season 3 renewal was not likely in the cards for the Zachary Quinto-lead medical drama.
The one piece of good news for fans of the series is that NBC will still broadcast the remaining episodes of the season beginning on Wednesday, May 27. An exact rollout plan has not been confirmed for the remaining six episodes in season 2, but it is expected the episodes will air weekly.
The cancellation of Stumble is equally as unsurprising. Despite NBC's best efforts, the cheerleading comedy failed to find an audience on the network. With an average of 1.7 million total viewers across its season, making it NBC's least-watched series of the season. The show was said to have strong support at the network, it simply wasn't enough to give the network reason to bring the show back for another season.
With Brilliant Minds and Stumble becoming the first two cancellations from NBC this year, this now leaves three shows sitting on the bubble waiting to learn their fates: Law & Order: The Hunting Party and The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins.
There is honestly no telling where NBC will land with the decisions of the three shows, but the odds seem favorable for the shows.
The Hunting Party has held relatively solid in its ratings in its second season and its first season was recently added to Netflix, where it's been performing strongly. Although it's not led to an immediate bump in the show's ratings, Deadline reports that the show has enjoyed a bump on Peacock, where season 2 is streaming.
There is also a good chance that The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins will be coming back for a second season after a solid first season showing. It doesn't hurt that the show has some serious star power behind it with Daniel Radcliffe and Tracy Morgan.
As for Law & Order, the show has been a strong performer, and the franchise remains a strong part of the NBC brand. There is also an expectation that NBC is likely looking to avoid another sudden cancellation for the long-running series. The abrupt cancellation of Law & Order after 20 seasons did not sit well with Dick Wolf, and it seems likely that NBC would not want to harm the relationship by cancelling Law & Order abruptly once again. A renewal is expected for the show, but whether that's in the form of a standard renewal or a final-season order remains to be seen.
