After just three episodes, Fire Country is heading on yet another break at CBS.

Fire Country may have only just returned to CBS’s lineup on February 27 following its extended winter break, but the network’s hit firefighter drama is about to head into yet another multi-week break.

As we enter the second half of March, March Madness is about to officially begin, and with its arrival comes some scheduling shakeups at CBS. This is because CBS remains the broadcast home for the annual NCAA basketball tournament, and its primetime coverage will require many of the network’s hit shows to be pulled from the schedule. Among the shows impacted by the 2026 March Madness schedule is Fire Country, which will be going off the air for a two-week break following its March 13 episode.

With March Madness coverage taking over CBS’s Thursday and Friday night primetime slots in the weeks ahead, there will be no new episodes or any reruns for Fire Country fans to enjoy on the final two Fridays of March. That’s the bad news. The good news is that on the other side of this break will be the first official crossover event between Fire Country and Sheriff Country

That’s right, when Fire Country returns after its two-week break on April 3, CBS will be bringing fans an intense 2-hour crossover event that will bring together the casts of Fire Country and Sheriff Country for a proper crossover event. I use the term “proper” as the shows have technically staged some mini-crossovers with characters from the two series crossing over for guest spots, but this will be the first time the two shows will cross over in a major way with a storyline that will unfold across the two shows.

The action will begin in Sheriff Country at 8/7c as a mysterious school bus explosion leaves nine students missing, leading the way for Sheriff Mickey Fox and Cal Fire Division Chief Sharon Leone to team up for a joint investigation in hopes of cracking the case and finding the missing students. This storyline will then continue in Fire Country directly after at 9/8c, as Bode and Deputy Boone risk it all in order to save innocent lives as they race against the clock to save the missing students.

Now, there is one interesting aspect to the crossover. It seems that not every series regular from the two respective shows will appear in both hours of the event. CBS’s official press release reveals that Fire Country’s Max Thieriot (Bode), Diane Farr (Sharon), and Jules Latimer (Eve) will appear in the Sheriff Country episode of the crossover, while Sheriff Country’s Morena Baccarin (Mickey), Matt Lauria (Boone), and W. Earl Brown (Wes) will appear in the Fire Country episode of the crossover.

While it’s disappointing to know that only certain characters will appear in both episodes of the crossover, we’re excited to see how the casts come together and interact with each other during the event. Considering CBS teases that Sharon and Mickey will have to put their personal conflicts aside, we’re not expecting smooth sailing, which should make for some fun dynamics amid the chaos of the case!
