We are at the point where we have no idea what networks will do about the future of their shows. CBS made some surprising decisions already about the 2025–2026 season, and we did worry about the future of The Neighborhood.
The hit comedy has some mixed news for its future. The Neighborhood season 8 will happen, but it comes with the bad news of it being the final season. Honestly, though, I’m just glad fans of this comedy will get a final season, because I know what it’s like all too well to not get closure for a series.
Why is The Neighborhood season 8 going to be the last?
Deadline reported the mixed news with an explanation for the final season order. While the series is certainly one of the most popular shows on the network, it is an expensive one. This is a series that has seen little cast turnover, especially within the lead cast, and that brings high costs. The cast of the series have agreed to one more deal that will allow the series to wrap up the storylines.
Why would this one get it and not the likes of FBI: International, FBI: Most Wanted, and SWAT? Well, the previous three shows were all outside studios. The Neighborhood comes from within CBS TV Studios, meaning that it’s much easier to craft deals with the cast alone. The other shows need to go through licensing talks as well as cast negotiations.

It’s not the end of The Neighborhood universe
There is some good news for fans of a couple of characters, though. This does not mean the end of the universe at all, as CBS is eyeing up a spin-off series. The Neighborhood season 7 finale will serve as the backdoor pilot for the spin-off, which will focus on Marty and Malcolm.
While the season 7 finale would serve as a backdoor pilot, it wasn’t written as a series finale, which would mean a lack of closure if canceled there. Sure, we could find out about characters via the spin-off should it happen, but there still wouldn’t be the full closure fans deserve. With the eighth season confirmed, there is a chance to wrap up all storylines.
Getting the final season renewal is also good news for the spin-off plans. The two shows were designed to run back-to-back, and now there is that chance. The backdoor pilot will still need to air to see if CBS is happy with the series and the opinions from fans, though. It’s tricky, though, as the spin-off’s backdoor pilot won’t air until after the May Upfronts, when decisions are usually made by. We’ll have to wait and see if the network has faith in the show now that it’s offered a final season order to The Neighborhood.
The Neighborhood airs on Mondays at 8/7c on CBS.
