Jack Damon returned in Chicago Fire season 13, episode 15. The big question was about who from Firehouse 51 wouldn’t survive the episode.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Chicago Fire season 13, episode 15.
The episode started with Kidd and Severide getting a visit from the social worker to check on their home to make sure the space was suitable for a kid. However, it was soon clear that there were life threatening situations.
To add humor to the episode, Pascal went on the hunt for the perfect anniversary gift. Would that humor turn into something heartbreaking? What we do know is that Mouch isn’t the best for offering anniversary gift advice.
What’s going on at Firehouse 20 in Chicago Fire?
We thought Damon might be stepping in for Carver in Chicago Fire season 13, episode 15, but it turned out that Firehouse 88 needed an assist from 51. That led to Damon working with Severide again, but it was soon clear that Damon isn’t all that well liked at Firehouse 20. When the call goes a little wrong and Damon ends up separated from his partner and with Severide, the lieutenant wants to know what’s going on.
Well, it turned out that the Firehouse 20 guy made a bad decision in the middle of the call. With the threat to blackball Damon, we knew that he would need to turn to Severide for help. Of course, Damon wants to make it on his own.
There were a couple of moments where Novak and Damon crossed paths. It turns out that Novak is interested, so will we see something go on between Novak and Damon?
That’s not something on Damon’s mind, though. When there are discrepancies between Damon’s report and other’s reports about the fire, the lieutenant at 20 realizes that something is being hidden. Severide said that Damon should keep his head down, but he had to tell the truth in the end. I love how Damon has all of 51 beside him. He has learned his lesson about lying, and he’s taking it all on board. I would like to see 51 become his permanent home again, but again, it means some changes need to happen with people getting their promotions.
Severide and Kidd want to help Damon out, but they’re all stuck. It’s Kidd who suggests that Damon come back to Firehouse 51, but Severide will need to convince Pascal that it’s a good idea.

Chief Pascal pushes for Mouch to move to another firehouse?
When Chief Pascal finds out that a lieutenant position is opening up at another firehouse, he wants Mouch to put his name in for the position. Pascal goes as far to get Mouch an interview, even though this isn’t in Mouch’s interests. Mouch and Herrmann have their plan, and Pascal knows about that. It’s almost as if Pascal knows that he has no plans of opening his Chief position up as initially promised.
Mouch does go through with the meeting. It turns out that this was set up by Pascal, making it clear that he knows he’s not planning on leaving Firehouse 51, which means Herrmann’s lieutenant spot isn’t opening up. It turns out that it’s got nothing to do with Pascal; it’s to do with Herrmann. Pascal realizes that Herrmann isn’t showing that he wants the Chief job, and Pascal just wants to make sure Mouch gets the permanent lieutenant spot. I do think Mouch is too close to Herrmann to see it. We’ve all been seeing it for a while.
Chief Pascal does have other things on his mind. It’s his anniversary and he wants to get Monica the perfect gift. It is Mouch who ends up figuring out a perfect gift. Mouch realizes that Monica borrows her sister’s watch, and it’s soon clear that a watch would make the perfect gift. It wasn’t as humorous as expected.
Kidd and Severide start their adoption journey in Chicago Fire season 13, episode 15
Kidd and Severide are now on their adoption journey. We start with Terry, a social worker, coming for a home visit, and then there’s a video call for an interview. This is a chance for Kidd and Severide to talk about how their families were influences as parents. Severide managed to find good things to say about Benny.
Of course, this is where some of the humor is. Herrmann and Cruz walk in talking about how incompetent Capp and Tony are, but it sounds like they’re talking about Kidd and Severide. The social worker is still on the call, and Herrmann and Cruz immediately panic that they’ve ruined the chances for the two lieutenants.
Herrmann and Cruz decide to pay Terry a visit with Capp and Tony to share an explanation. It turns out that Terry didn’t hear anything that they said. Even if he did hear, it turned out that going to see Terry partially helped. Kidd and Severide were approved as adoptive parents. Sure, they have high risk jobs, but they have a family at Firehouse 51.

Who died in Chicago Fire season 13, episode 15?
The big question all episode was who was going to die in the episode. We knew someone would, and there was a point where it looked like it would be Kidd as she rushed across the road to stop a man wandering around in the road. I do really want to know why the road wasn’t closed off considering the car accident. How did the fire trucks get there before police?
It didn’t take long to figure out that the theory that it wouldn't be someone connected to Firehouse 51 was right. A blonde-haired woman was in one of the cars, and it wasn’t long before we found out that Monica Pascal was the driver. I don’t feel like we’ve got to know Monica well enough to really mourn the loss, but this isn’t about her. It’s about the Firehouse 51 family and Pascal. We could at least see that Pascal loved his wife deeply, and we could see how much Firehouse 51 care about their own, even if they are relatively new.
There’s also the bittersweetness as Pascal got a reservation at the fanciest restaurant and placed the gift just perfectly on the table. He rushed to the hospital as he learned about his wife, and we saw all of 51 there to help. This is what makes it so heartbreaking. It’s about the grief of the characters we have come to know. Dermot Mulroney did a brilliant job of the initial shock and anger and then collapsing in grief by the side of his wife’s body.
It also makes sense that Violet is in tears. She knows this pain after losing Hawkins, and she would never want Pascal to go through it. It leaves a haunting end to Chicago Fire season 13, episode 15.
