Chicago Fire season 13, episode 4 recap and review: "Through the Skin"
Violet makes a decision during a call that threatens her career in Chicago Fire season 13, episode 4. Here’s how the episode went down.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Chicago Fire season 13, episode 4.
We knew from the promo for Chicago Fire season 13, episode 4 that Violet’s job would be on the line. It’s time to find out what all the other storylines entailed. A lot happened in the new episode!
What happened to Violet in Chicago Fire season 13, episode 4?
Violet made a call that involved performing a surgery that she wasn’t qualified to do. However, she needed to do it. The patient was dead, but she was eight months pregnant. Violet had to do a C-section there and then if there was any chance of saving the baby. The patient’s sister was even there to approve of the life-saving surgery for the baby.
Unfortunately, it went against protocol. Violet’s license was suspended, and it looked almost impossible that she would get it back. Pascal tried to help, sharing that Violet needed to turn to someone who could help. At first, Violet when to the Chief at Chicago Med, but Violet needed someone in government. Who would that be?
Pascal made his apologies to the guy he punched to help save Violet. It got the city congressman to turn up and make a show at Violet’s hearing. Having the sister and baby turn up helped. Violet was able to keep her job.
During this whole storyline, Violet goes off on one to Tori. Tori is a piece of work, and I’m ready to see her go. To be honest, she deserved the outburst from Violet, and I don’t know why people were trying to stop Violet. You don’t ask for people to share their war stories unless you have one of your own. There’s an understanding between firefighters and paramedics, just like there are between military veterans. Carver should have stopped Tori saying anything more.
I wish Violet would have said something to Carver about what Tori has been doing to his messages. Carver needs to know who he has in his life. Sure, Carver may not believe Violet at first, and I’ve been on the side of telling someone their girlfriend is messing with them. I just believe that people deserve to have the information so they can deal with it themselves. It puts the ball back in their court. This is now just going to create more drama, which is great for the show, but it’s annoying after a while.
Herrmann found a way to help Kidd
Kidd needed to replace Damon on Truck 81. She wanted Kylie, but Kylie made it clear that as much as she loved Firehouse 51, she couldn’t end up on Truck. She’s called “MK,” which stands for Mini Kidd, and she wants to stand out on her own. It’s a fair response, but it meant that Kidd needed to figure out another option.
Well, Herrmann helped. He realized that Ritter could move over to Truck 81. That would allow him to bring in Kylie to Truck 81.
Mouch made a point that this is what makes Herrmann a great Battalion Chief, and it does. Herrmann can find solutions to problems that others can’t. He doesn’t just leave people to flounder, and he figures out to make situations better. I can’t wait to see Kylie back with 51, where she belongs.
We know Ritter will do well on Truck, but it was a big deal for Herrmann to suggest the move. It’s because of Herrmann that Ritter even has a job in the CFD. This is the man Ritter looks up to.
The Damon situation also seems to be solved, which was quick for the show! Severide got another firehouse to take him permanently, and he told Damon to stop trying to avoid the Severide legacy. Make a legacy of his own. Is that really it for Damon? That doesn't seem right?
Cruz looks for Javi’s bike in Chicago Fire season 13, episode 4
While all this is going down, Cruz, Tony, and Capp are on a mission to find Javi’s bike. This storyline was clearly just for humor, and it ends with Cruz looking like an idiot. He stole a bike from a teenager, and he ended up having to pay for this.
Look, I know we need humorous storylines and I loved seeing Javi again at the end, but I think this storyline could have been a bit stronger. I didn’t care about it at all, and I think part of that is because it was so stereotypical and easy to guess.
I loved Violet’s story this episode. Seeing her make a decision to save a life that went against protocol was so Gabi, and I’ve missed that about the series. Having Novak stand up for Violet and then thank Pascal was also great, along with then Pascal doing the right thing. Is this a turning point for Pascal? I’m starting to think so, but I’m ready to see Herrmann get a boost in his career.
