The Chicago Fire season 13 fall finale left Cruz in some trouble. It’s time to see what that will lead to as Chicago Fire season 13, episode 9 airs on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Yes, the series is finally on its way back. Now is a good time to look at what to expect in that episode, which is set to pick up with the reveal of the threats made to Cruz throughout the fall finale. We didn’t get to see Severide in the fall finale but fear not; he will be back in the midseason premiere.

Cruz’s past comes back to haunt him in Chicago Fire season 13, episode 9

Joe Cruz has always been one to try to follow the law. He wanted to keep his brother away from the gangs, but when that wasn’t possible, he did what he could legally to deal with the situation. Eventually, he had to cross a line, and that’s about to come back to haunt him.

The Chicago Fire season 13 fall finale reminded us that Cruz has done what needs to be done to save his brother. We did wonder if that was every going to come back to haunt him, but after 13 years, we thought maybe not. Well, it has.

At the end of the fall finale, a man named Junior Polanco claimed to be present during a fire that took place in the first season. That fire was the one that killed Flaco, who was causing problems for Cruz and his brother, but Cruz was sure he was the only one to know that Flaco was inside and had died in the fire. Things are about to get tense for the firefighter.

While Cruz has to deal with that, Severide will be at the Academy for this episode. He needs to teach an arson lesson to the new cadets there. The bad news is that we won’t see any Stellaride moments as it doesn’t look like Kidd is going to be in this episode. This is nothing to worry about. The One Chicago shows are seeing some characters out now and then to help save money to keep the shows on the air.

The final part of the synopsis focuses on Mouch. He’s going to look for a next of kin for a victim. This could add some comedic relief to the story in the search, but I also expect some heartfelt message within the storyline.
