Where was Severide in the Chicago Fire season 13 fall finale? (Is Severide leaving?)
With the way the previous episode went, is it really that surprising that Severide wasn’t around for the Chicago Fire season 13 fall finale? As much as we would love to see him in every episode, this show, like many others, don’t have all actors in all episodes to help with cost-cutting.
The fall finale saw Severide missing for the whole episode. This isn’t a big thing, though. It sounds like it’s only for one episode, and the show explained where he was in the world of One Chicago.
Severide is on a work trip in the Chicago Fire season 13 fall finale
It didn’t take long to explain Severide’s disappearance in the episode. Tony and Capp made a note that Cruz was going to be Acting Lieutenant for the shift again, and that meant Severide was away. The fact that he’s “Acting” Lieutenant is important. Cruz is only stepping in the role temporarily.
All that was said was that Severide was on a work trip in Michigan. Cruz called it some “fire inspection boondoggle,” which was kind of cute.
We know that Severide is diving more and more into the world of arson. As much as he tried to fight this part of firefighting, he has a skill and a passion for it. He just can’t help himself, so it makes sense to have him dealing more and more with this outside of the firehouse. If the show ever wanted to have Cruz take the lieutenant exam and stay with Firehouse 51, it would make sense for Severide to go to arson and still be a consistent part of the series.
Severide won’t be gone for long in Chicago Fire
The last time Severide was away on business, he went away for much longer than originally planned. This was written in when Taylor Kinney took an unexpected leave of absence from the series. It was then brought up later, with Kidd making it clear that she didn’t appreciate Severide going MIA while away.
Well, he’s learned from this. He has been in touch with Kidd while away, and he made it clear that he wasn’t having fun on his work trip. Kidd told Violet that he would be returning early, which should mean that Severide is back for the Chicago Fire season 13 winter premiere.
Chicago Fire is now on a break until Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 9/8c on NBC. Catch up on the season so far on Peacock.
