Chicago Med just had a huge cliffhanger as its midseason finale, so could the show lose one (or more) doctors?
Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 8
A subplot in Chicago Med Season 10 has been Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) receiving threatening notes. Goodwin worried it was one of the many hospital staffers she’d been forced to let go due to budget cuts. A man was arrested for sending some notes and tried to kill himself when he was arrested. However, the threats continued, including someone breaking into Goodwin’s home.
The latest episode had Goodwin in her office when she was attacked and held at knifepoint by a woman named Cassidy. They had some back-and-forth talk, with Cassidy snapping that she didn’t have a family thanks to Goodwin killing her wife.
This led back to the Season 10 premiere as the hospital was handling the patients from a boat crash while a blood shortage was happening. Goodwin had to choose whether to give blood to the captain who’d caused the accident or a woman whose odds of survival were already bad. She chose the captain as having better odds to make it.
Cassidy is naturally outraged that Goodwin chose to save the man who caused this disaster and let her wife die. Goodwin tried to apologize, only for Cassidy to stab her in the abdomen.
Is Goodwin dying on Chicago Med?
Because Goodwin was expected to be busy with work, no one knew what was happening. Cassidy refused to help Goodwin, who wasn’t that afraid of dying but still wasn’t ready to give up.
Archer came to the office to slip a resignation letter under the door as he couldn’t keep working for Lenox. Hearing him, Goodwin smashed a bottle over Cassidy’s head and tried to make her way to the door. Archer was just getting on the elevator with the doors closing when he saw Goodwin in her office doorway and a knife-wielding Cassidy behind her.
That was quite a shocker of a cliffhanger as the show enters a hiatus until January. Obviously, the next episode will pick up with Archer trying to save Goodwin and the hospital staff naturally jumping into action. It might make Archer reconsider his resignation.
There’s no word on Merkerson planning to leave the series, so the odds are good that Sharon will survive. However, she’s likely going to be shaken by the ordeal, not to mention the guilt over how her decision led to a woman dying and her wife turned into a killer.
It’ll be a few weeks before the show returns and fans of Chicago Med will be on pins and needles waiting to see how Goodwin’s fate unfolds.
Chicago Med Season 10 returns Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 8/7c on NBC.
