Chicago PD boss teases "darkest" character ever done in season 12
Chicago PD may be offering a new “big bad” for Season 12 that can add to the thrills!
Chicago PD has kicked off Season 12 in a wild way. When the season began, the Intelligence Unit had a new member in Emily Martel (Victoria Cartagena), who was fitting in pretty well. She and Ruzek helped crack a drug dealing case and were driving through a neighborhood when shots were fired. They got out to investigate only to come under fire, and Martel was shockingly shot in the head.
Episode 2 was a thrilling one as Ruzek joined patrol officer Kiana Cook (Toya Turner) to chase the shooters down while Martel died at the hospital. Cook later aided the team in hunting a possible serial killer, which earned her an invitation to join the team.
A chance of a big bag in Chicago PD season 12?
That was a powerful start to the season as showrunner Gwen Sigan has hinted to TVLine that the series is planning a “big bad” for multiple episodes much like Season 11’s serial killer.
"There are a couple, yes. I can tell you that one sort of big bad we sort of introduce a little bit in Episode 6 (airing Nov. 6) and then Episode 7 you get to know more. And then we’ve got another, I would say one of the darkest characters we’ve done is introduced in episode 10, which will also be for a few episodes of the season as well. So, yeah, we’ve got some really twisted big bads coming up."
This sounds like Chicago PD is trying to do more “serialized” storylines to mix with the usual weekly cases that could be more challenging for the characters.
What else is coming on Chicago PD?
The first couple of episodes for Season 12 had Burgess (Marina Squerciati) absent with the explanation she was working on an assignment in New Orleans. This appeared to be a simple scheduling issue with the actress with Burgess back on the job.
Sigan hints that Episode 6 will give Burgess a big challenge that may mar her dreams of becoming a detective.
"We see her face a big challenge. It’s a fun ride for her. It’s a lot about sort of ‘inside baseball’ policing. It presents good ethical dilemmas for her throughout the episode, and we get to see her be really resilient and to come out the other end of it a bit changed, which is always fun."
As much as Burgess wants to make detective, she always wants to do the right thing. It’s hinted that she may have to choose between her career and seeing justice done and that can affect her majorly in the future. That's without how she and Ruzek are still planning to get married.
Thus, Chicago PD is on track for another fine season to build on all the drama fans of the show have come to love.
Chicago PD airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC.
