Get ready for an extended break for Doctor Odyssey

It’s that time of year again. The broadcast TV shows are taking their winter breaks. Doctor Odyssey is one of the first to air its fall finale tomorrow night, Thursday, Nov. 21.

Usually, we see shows return in January. That’s not the case for Doctor Odyssey or the rest of the TGIT lineup. We have a longer break than we’d like, but this isn’t a bad thing for the series.

When will Doctor Odyssey return in 2025?

The freshman medical drama will return on Thursday, March 6, 2025. This will be in the 9/8c timeslot as it’s held since September. The show will be sandwiched between the returns of 911 and Grey’s Anatomy. So yes, TGIT will be as normal from March.

All three shows are taking this lengthy break. 911 fans are used to it. From the beginning since the show made it to the fall schedule, it’s opted for a lengthier winter break compared to other shows. This allows the series to film the remaining episodes and avoids breaks in the schedule. Grey’s Anatomy fans have also experienced the same thing in recent years.

So, it’s not that surprising that Doctor Odyssey is also getting this break. It’s a good thing in the long-run.

Why a long break for TGIT?

This extended winter break is a good thing when you consider what it means when the shows do return. There are only so many episodes that film in the season, but there is nine months of schedule to cover. This means that there are breaks here and there in the schedule.

By ABC opting for a longer break for these three shows in the winter, it means there aren’t as many weeks off in the schedule once the shows do return. We get a straight run through, which is better for the fans. We all appreciate the consistent schedules.

It’s a big draw of The Rookie and Will Trent not being in the fall schedules. The January starts mean that there are minimal breaks in the schedule for better consistency.

We’re looking at a May finale for Doctor Odyssey and the rest of the TGIT lineup. We’ll know more closer to the time.
