Is Eddie leaving the 118? (Is a cast change coming to 911?)

There have been a lot of questions about Eddie's future with the 118 in 911 season 8. Has he made the decision to leave LA?

Things haven’t been easy for Eddie in 911 season 8. He’s had to live with the fact that his son chose to move back to Texas to live with Eddie’s parents. Now Eddie has a difficult choice to make.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from 911 season 8, episode 8

Throughout the season, Eddie has struggled with losing Christopher. He’s tried to reconnect with his son multiple times, but Christopher hasn’t been interested. And that’s okay. Christopher is a teenager who has been immensely hurt by his dad. Eddie was with someone who looked like Christopher’s mom. It was confusing for everyone, but especially for Christopher.

It’s not up to Christopher to just allow his dad back into his life. It’s up to the parent to fix what has been broken, especially under these circumstances.

Is moving to Texas the only way to fix things in 911?

Eddie has accepted that he doesn’t want to see the gap between them get bigger. Brad came in with some great advice during the episode, sharing how he wasn’t even invited to his son’s wedding after moving from England to LA when his son was a kid and never moving back. The gap just gets bigger and bigger, and Brad made it clear that it was up to Eddie to fix that.

So, it would seem that moving back to Texas is the best option. Christopher isn’t interested in coming back to LA. He has friends and a good life in El Paso. So, Eddie needs to move to him if he wants to be part of his son’s life.

The last we left Eddie, though, he was looking at houses in El Paso. Buck walked in with baked goods and looking for advice about Tommy just as Eddie was getting ready for a virtual meeting with a realtor out there. Hence the button down.

Buck was initially supportive, but you can tell that he’ll have a problem with this. They are best friends, and it’s going to be difficult for Buck to lose Eddie just as he’s lost Tommy. However, deep down, Buck will know that this is something Eddie needs to do.

Should Eddie move back to Texas in 911 season 8?

Let’s be honest; if this was real life, we’d encourage a dad to move back to the same state as his son. It’s because it’s 911 that we don’t want to see that, but is that really fair? Don’t we deserve some sense of realism in a show that is anything but? We complain all the time about how Eddie’s mom treats Eddie, so shouldn’t we want to see Eddie do better and be there for Christopher?

Okay, I’ll admit that there is a toxic part of the 911 fandom that kind of makes me want to see Eddie go back to Texas. There’s also part of me that wants to see Eddie do right by Christopher and not have the convenience of Christopher suddenly deciding to leave the good life he’s got in Texas behind, because that doesn’t feel realistic. However, it’s TV, and there are contracts and scripting needs. I expect to see Christopher come back to LA at some point just as Eddie is about to move for him.

I guess we’ll find out in March when 911 season 8 returns.
