Over the years, all we’ve ever wanted for Buck is for someone to treat him the way he treats others. Well, he’s found that person in 911.
Caution: This post contains some SPOILERS for 911 season 8, episode 5
The new episode of 911 put the focus on Buck and Tommy’s relationship with a Halloween theme. After dislocating his arm, Buck is taken to hospital. Tommy is there as soon as he can be, and he even listens to Buck’s theory that he’s cursed.
The curse part is a bit of humor at first, but it soon becomes a possibility. The women Buck had been with in the past wouldn’t have taken him seriously at all. And sure, Tommy didn’t, but he also didn’t make fun of Buck for taking the curse seriously. In the end, it looked like Tommy was even on the fence about a potential curse.
Tommy was there to look after Buck in 911
In the past, we’ve seen Buck hurt and having to do things himself. Girlfriends have dropped in to check up on him, but nobody stuck around in the way that Tommy did in this episode.
He got Buck home, and he stayed the night. Buck didn’t even get to bed, but Tommy didn’t mind. There wasn’t an argument about Buck staying up with his cowboy research. Maybe there would have been had things not taken a turn with the boils on Buck’s face, but I don’t think that is in Tommy’s character. He’s a changed man; he’s grown a lot since we met him in “Hen Begins.”
Tommy even went on the trip to the cemetery with Buck. There is no way in hell a girlfriend of the past would have done this. Tommy didn’t judge, and he even stepped back and allowed Buck to do his thing. He’s making it clear that he is the supportive partner that Buck needs.
And it’s not just Buck. Tommy was there for everyone. When Hen’s son Denny was in surgery, the entire 118 was there. Athena was there as well, which wasn’t surprising considering she and Athena are best friends, but Tommy was also there. Maybe he was there to support Buck, but he commented on how great it was to have a whole family. This is something he misses, but he wants it again. Buck is the start of that for him, and I hope to see more of this grow as the season continues.
I understand there are people out there who want to see Buck and Eddie together. I'm here for the ship that we're actually getting, and 911 is making it clear that people can change if they want to. Tommy is a changed man.
