Has Eddie left the 118 for good in 911 season 8? The door is open

Eddie is currently in Texas to be closer to Christopher, but there's a chance he'll be back in LA in 911 season 8.

Eddie has made a huge sacrifice for the sake of Christopher in 911 season 8, and it was needed. The question is whether he’ll return to the 118. Don’t rule it out, but I don’t think it should happen for some time.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from 911 season 8, episode 12.

The latest episode saw Eddie in Texas. We picked up with him attempting to land a job at a new firehouse, only to learn that there is a hiring freeze going on. That meant that Eddie had to turn to being a rideshare driver to make ends meet.

It seemed like it was all for nothing, and after learning that Bobby had said there would always be a place for him at the 118, he called Buck to discuss moving back. Buck stopped him in his tracks, though. Buck did the mature thing and reminded Eddie that he needed to stay in Texas and see this through. Christopher needs him.

Eddie is staying in Texas for now in 911 season 8

It’s clear by the end of the episode that Eddie is sticking around in Texas for now. After Christopher learned that his dad had lied to him about his job, the two had a heart-to-heart. Christopher is still upset about the lie, but he did understand why Eddie said what he did. Plus, it’s not like Eddie has lost his job in a disgraceful way — there’s nothing he can do about a hiring freeze.

So, for now, Eddie is sticking with the plan to live in Texas. He needs to make amends with Christopher, and he needs to be a dad again. This isn’t going to change in a day or a week. It’s not even going to change in a month.

Eddie needs to see this through, and based on an interview with TVLine, it sounds like that is going to happen. There’s going to be some hints of the old Eddie come through, and there’s going to be some growth for the character, both of which are needed to see him get to a point where he and Christopher are as tight as they used to be.

This doesn’t mean the door is closed on the 118

Getting the storyline in Texas does suggest that we’ll see Eddie come back to the 118 at some point. It’s rare for a series to have a storyline in two locations for too long. However, this storyline does need to take the rest of the season, if I’m honest. We need to see Eddie figure out how to be a dad, and we need to see Christopher realize that he wants to be with his dad and in LA.

Right now, everything is focused on what Christopher wants, and that’s the way it should be. While we think that moving our kids is going to be better for them, that’s not always the case. Christopher has friends and has come out of his shell while back in Texas, showing that this was the better life for him. Eddie now needs to be part of that life rather than pulling Christopher away from it too soon.

According to The Wrap, Ryan Guzman shared that we’d be in Texas “for a bit,” but that the goal was to get Eddie back with the 118. That isn’t guaranteed, though. After all, life has a way to throw some curveballs.

For now, I’m here to se Eddie do what it takes to be a good dad. If that means it’s in Texas, then I’m here for it.

911 airs on Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC. Catch up on the previous day with Hulu.
