We still have time before the return of FBI and CIA, but we already have some exciting crossover news for the two shows! The premiere episodes will feature a crossover, with FBI’s John Boyd going to CIA while Necar Zadegan will join FBI.
As per TVLine, the CBS shows will feature a connection between Boyd’s Agent Stuart Scola and Nick Gehlfuss’s CIA character, FBI Agent Bill Goodman. The two men were old friends from early in their FBI days. Boyd’s appearance in the season 2 CIA episode “The Deep” will mark his first time crossing over to the series.
The synopsis for the episode explains how Scola comes to help the team. In the episode, the team will look into the appearance of a known cartel fixer, and things become dire when they discover a DEA agent has been found deceased. “After it becomes clear the case is not what it seems, the team must work quickly to prevent additional murders,” as per the synopsis.
It also details Goodman’s return after losing his father. While the synopsis doesn’t explain what it is, his return to work leads him to make a “shocking discovery.” In teasing the episode to TVLine, showrunner Mike Weiss detailed how Scola becomes involved with the team.
“Later on in the episode when we need to hit a DEA target house, it’s a great moment of CIA fusion cell/FBI collaboration where Bill calls his buddy Scola.” This will lead them to put together a SWAT team in order to move in, and we may get to see some fun banter between the old friends.
As for FBI, Deputy Chief of Station Nikki Reynard will appear when the team needs help during a case that may involve a suspect with international ties.
In the season 9 premiere episode, “Rendition,” the team investigates the murder of a traveler in a state park, and they learn the victim had witnessed an execution involving someone who was connected to a government-sponsored top-secret project.
Reynard’s expertise will help the team, especially since she has made her career in “chasing bad guys who might have an international or intelligence or terror background,” according to Weiss.
This will mark Reynard’s second appearance on FBI. Her first appearance was in the Season 8 episode “3 Up, 3 Down.”
For a refresher, FBI ended with Agent Maggie Bell’s partner, OA Zidan, seemingly losing his job when, in fact, he was going undercover. In the meantime, Maggie will have to work with a new partner, Chicago Med’s Roland Buck III, who joins FBI as Agent Isaiah Green. This will be a big adjustment for Maggie, who is one of a few people who knows OA wasn’t actually fired.
FBI will premiere first on Monday, Oct. 5, at 8/7c, followed by CIA at 9/8c on CBS. You can watch the previous episodes of both shows on Paramount+ to catch up before the new seasons air.
