The FBI season 9 premiere got off to an exciting start, showing how OA was immersed in Anna Vorp’s organization after three months. Obviously, he was not happy about the mission they were on, but he had to remain in character so as not to show his true intentions. How did the rest of his team fare without him?
As OA was still deep undercover, his FBI partner Maggie Bell was still struggling without him. At the same time, she was also having a difficult time letting her new partner in, as he tried to at least find out her coffee order. Despite her demeanor toward him and being slightly standoffish, she still tried to be cordial with him.

How does OA's undercover assignment connect with the FBI?
Then we find out through Eva Ramos and Stuart Scola that her partner, Isaiah, is the nephew of ADIC Green, who was responsible for OA’s “termination” from the Bureau.
While OA is busy with his case, the team is investigating the murder of Clara Brooks, a 21-year-old nature vlogger who was out camping when she was found shot and killed. Video from one of her recordings revealed she had a boyfriend named Jeff Watts, who has a history of domestic violence.
Of course, it never turns out to be that easy. Data from both Jeff’s and Clara’s smart devices show they were separated at the time she was killed. Clara had gone toward a lake while he went hiking. But something scared her, and when the team investigated, they discovered a crime scene.
Alex Rubell worked in air conditioning, and he was associated with a man named Dominick. However, when Eva and Scola went to speak with him, he was spooked, and right before armed individuals attacked them and fatally injured their witness, Dominick brought up Project Jehova.
Project Jehova, as it turned out, was a CIA project involved in nuclear forensics, which is where Nikki Reynard from CIA came in. Jubal learned about the project, which would allow the US to protect itself from a nuclear attack.
The FBI’s victims were their top nuclear scientists, and now they needed to protect the top scientist still alive, who was a man named Cameron Coleo, who was seen being chased by Anna Vorp’s team at the beginning of the episode.
Maggie and Isaiah went to bring Cameron into protective custody, but before they could, this is when OA was discovered in the lab as he tried to bring Cameron in. Maggie discovered it was him, but to keep his cover, she got him to knock her to the ground, but not before learning that Anna’s team didn’t do anything to the previous victims.
Vorp’s team believed Cameron was feeding intel about the project to a North Korean spy, and they wanted to use their own investigative methods to get information from him. OA reluctantly watched one of them beat Cameron before he got some time alone and convinced Cameron to tell him the truth.
His girlfriend, Laney Choi, is South Korean, but her parents are still in the North. She began sharing secrets to try and get them released. Before Eva and Scola could bring her in once OA secretly shared intel with Maggie, she was taken by North Korean soldiers.
After a harrowing search, the team found her, but all of them fought back until they were killed, meaning no one could be questioned. Having brought Laney in, Maggie shared a moment with Isaiah, who asked her if he heard her talking to the perp from the lab. However, Maggie denied this, seeing as it was OA she was communicating with. Isaiah wanted her to trust him, but Maggie can’t blow his cover.
In the meantime, Anna’s strike team discovered Cameron Coleo dead, having hung himself when he was left alone briefly. OA thought this could be his way to bring Anna down, but she was protected by an exemption. OA had to keep getting close to her so they could find out who was shielding her from being brought down.
This premiere episode showed just how far undercover OA was, but also how it was getting to a point where he wanted to return home. It’s unknown how long his cover will remain, but for now, OA will need to continue his work if they want to stop Anna and her team.
FBI airs Mondays on CBS at 8/7c. New episodes are available the next day on Paramount+.
