With Fire Country and Sheriff Country both established hits for CBS, it’s no shock that the franchise is going to expand. Plans are underway to make a third show in this universe (tentatively called Med Country) a reality in the 2026-27 season. The idea is for Sheriff Country to have an episode acting as a “backdoor pilot” for this new show.

Speaking to TV Insider, Max Thieriot, who plays Bode on Fire and will help produce the new series, revealed there's not much to share now, but “I can say that we’re actively developing it all out, and me and Joan (Rater) and Tony (Phelan) and Matt Lopez are sort of fleshing out all the story stuff daily. But I know we’re all really excited to hopefully get to bring to life the Fire and Sheriff version of what the medical world looks like in Edgewater.”

An intriguing hint was Thieriot asked if the show could revolve around Camille Thurston (Natalie Zea), who’s been a recurring character in season 4 of Fire Country. The feisty, stubborn doctor has sparked with Manny and proved herself capable of handling emergencies at a rodeo and during the wild flood in the season 4 finale.

When asked if Camille is being set up as a potential star, Thieriot simply answered,  “It could. I cannot say for sure either way.”

Lopez chimed in on how the show is in the very early stages, but enjoys the challenge of a medical drama set not in a big city but a small town in the California woods. He compares it to how Sheriff Country is a different type of crime drama because of the unique locale.

“The challenge, and I think, the opportunity, is the same way that Mickey [Morena Baccarin] does law enforcement differently than any other cop on TV. How do the doctors and nurses of our hospital do medicine and heal patients differently? That’s something that’s really exciting.”

It would be a nice break from the medical dramas set in Chicago, Seattle, Pittsburgh, and other cities. Given the dangers around Edgewater, it’s logical that a small hospital may be overwhelmed and have the fun crossover potential of Fire or Sheriff showing a crisis and the patients ending up at Med.

Lopez added, “Again, it’s early stages, but we’re all really excited about it. And the idea would be characters and more than just Mickey — the show is being constructed in such a way that there are several, both Fire and Sheriff Country, characters that their storylines [are] baked in to cross with the medical show.”

It sounds like this will likely happen, as CBS obviously wants to turn Fridays into a “Country” block and put their own spin on the medical drama to beef up this franchise.

Fire Country and Sheriff Country are streaming on Paramount+.
