Finally, we know when Family Guy will be coming back with Season 23! Find out the premiere date!

It's been a longer wait than usual for fans of Family Guy. The wild FOX animated series wrapped up Season 22 in April 2024, but released a pair of specials (one for Halloween, the other for Christmas) in late 2024 on Hulu. The delay appeared to be due to creator Seth McFarlane's busy schedule and FOX wanting to save a big premiere for midseason.

But now we know when Season 23 is coming! As reported by TVLine, Family Guy will return to the Sunday "Animation Domination" lineup on Feb. 16 at 8/7c. This marks the first time in almost 30 years that The Simpsons will not be airing at that time slot on Sundays.

Instead, The Simpsons will take a few weeks off before returning with the rest of Season 36 on March 30. As for the rest of the new Sunday lineup, following Family Guy will be the season 2 premiere of Grimsburg, followed by the Season 5 premiere of The Great North and then the continuation of Krapopolis Season 2. Bob's Burgers will return at an unspecified date in the spring.

When The Simpsons returns in March, Family Guy will follow it at 8:30/7:30c with The Great North and Krapaoplis following them.

What's coming in Family Guy Season 23?

Per TVLine, Season 23 will continue the usual nutty antics of the Griffin family. It'll kick off with a Top Gun parody that casts Peter as Maverick, Lois as Charlie, Joe as Goose, and Chris as Rooster.

Later in the season, Peter runs into Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh at a brewery tour, Lois becomes a stand-up comedian, and Meg starts dating a chicken she meets on a reality dating show. Does this mean we get to see yet another epic Peter vs Giant Chicken fistfight?

Where'd that famous meme come from?

Family Guy has been a bit more in the news as creator Seth McFarlane opened up on the origins of one of the show's most popular moments. In the Season 4, Episode 27, "Untitled Griffin Family History," the family is stuck inside a basement flooding with water. Thinking they're about to die, they share various secrets. Peter's big secret: He didn't like The Godfather.

When the rest of the family protests, Peter just answers with, "It insists upon itself." That moment has become a popular meme, most recently used by TikTok users when that platform faced a possible ban in January.

Taking it to Twitter/X, McFarlane explained that this came from a college professor who used it on not liking The Sound of Music.

"Since this has been trending, here's a fun fact: 'It insists upon itself' was a criticism my college film history professor used to explain why he didn't think The Sound of Music was a great film. First-rate teacher, but I never quite followed that one."

The meme's popularity shows just how large Family Guy has loomed in pop culture and why fans are so eager to see the Season 23 premiere.

Family Guy Season 23 premieres Sunday, Feb. 16 at 8/7c on Fox.
