With the 2024-2025 TV season almost over, there are many cancellation and renewal decisions coming. FOX still has a lot of shows on the line, but there have been some good decisions so far. While not many FOX shows have been renewed yet, we get to look forward to some.
On top of that, there are a few shows that we just know are likely to be renewed. We’ll take a look at them in this post. Just keep in mind that this is only about scripted shows, including animated comedy. The unscripted shows are a different beast.
All the renewed FOX shows so far
As of April 2025, there are only four renewed shows on FOX so far. The one that you may have overlooked is Krapopolis, which was renewed for a third season back in March 2023, ahead of the series even landing on our screens ever! On top of that, we got word that there would be a fourth season ahead of the second season premiere, so we know there are two more seasons to come.
Another early renewal was another animated series, Universal Basic Guys, which shouldn’t be too surprising. FOX loves its Animation Domination night, and if a show is testing well, then it’s going to get more seasons. Early renewals are important to help keep animation going.
A renewal that was on the surprising side was Murder in a Small Town. The linear ratings weren’t that strong for the first season, but this is a joint production with Global TV in Canada, which helps to keep the costs down. The lower linear rating are more acceptable to allow for a renewal.
The fourth series to score a renewal has been another freshman show. Doc landed a second season ahead of its season finale, giving fans security in case there was a cliffhanger finale. The renewal wasn’t that surprising considering how strong the linear ratings have been in the series. According to TV Series Finale, it was the second strongest drama in the demo and second-most-watched drama in the total audience.
There was some huge news to kick-off April, and that is the four-season renewal of The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob's Burgers. The seasons are being shortened than what we saw in the past, with just 15 episodes to each season for each show, but it's exciting news for the Animation Domination lineup!
On top of that, American Dad is returning to FOX! Yes, that was also in the four-season renewal news. After spending the last decade on TBS, American Dad will return to FOX in the 2025–2026 TV season and has also been renewed for four seasons.
What’s likely to be renewed by FOX
There are still a bunch of FOX shows still on the bubble, but there are a few that are likely to be renewed, and I'm really surprised a renewal hasn't come through yet.
When it comes to dramas, I’m surprised that Rescue: Hi-Surf hasn’t been renewed just yet considering how the series has been performing in the linear ratings. And while it’s early days, Alert: Missing Persons Unit season 3 has opened well. If it keeps going, it is likely to score a renewal. After all, it’s up from the previous season in the linear ratings right now.
Outside of the animated comedies and looking at just the scripted comedies, I suspect that we’ll see Animal Control renewed. While the series isn’t the strongest in linear ratings across broadcast shows, it performs consistently for FOX, and that’s what counts. It’s a strong contender against Thursday night shows on other networks, so is worth the network keeping it on the air.
