We were promised that Hetty would get a ghost power, and that happened in Ghosts season 4, episode 16. What exactly is she able to do, and why did it take so long for the power to reveal itself?
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Ghosts season 4, episode 16.
The new episode brought us a St. Patrick’s Day themed episode, which is important considering some recent reveals. After all, Hetty has learned that she’s part Irish, which also means that Sam is. It turns out that the day is something even more important for Hetty as she gets her ghost power.
Chris gets situated as a ghost in Ghosts season 4, episode 16
Of course, the end of the previous episode picked up with an immediate storyline in the new episode. This was a side story, but it got the attention that it deserved. With Chris dying and becoming a ghost, it meant that he got to ask all the questions that we’ve been thinking about. Why can ghosts walk through walls but not fall through floors, for example?
Well, the spirits share their powers, while Isaac struggles to keep it cool around Chris. Trevor, Flower, and others try to discourage Isaac being too forward and weird with Chris, but we all know that Isaac has no filter. It’s all about him.
When Nigel walks in and brings up a conversation about dinosaurs, Isaac finally shares all. He talks about the empty chair and goes into how Chris is his soulmate. As everyone expected, Chris gets a little overwhelmed and walks out, and it later leads to Nigel sharing that he and Chris kissed. I would love it if Nigel could find happiness because he deserves it, but Chris has always shown that he isn’t a one-ghost man. On top of that, he learns that his ghost power is flying — and the ghost boundary doesn’t exist in the air — so he’s off to travel the world with his chute. I guess this is the way to keep him as a guest star without too much explanation.
I do wish that Isaac had told Nigel the truth, though. If Chris comes back, Nigel is going to find out that Isaac lied to him, and I'm not sure he'll understand that it was supposed to be for a good reason.

Hetty’s ghost power revealed in Ghosts
It was time to find out Hetty’s ghost power and like with Pete’s power where it only revealed itself because it happened, that’s what happened here. It turns out that Hetty can be seen by people, but the theory is that it’s only on St. Patrick’s Day and only because Hetty has learned about and accepted her Irish side.
The great thing for Jay is that he has a day where he can interact with Hetty, and I do love how Sam forgets this now and again. The downside is that Jay’s cousin, Sunil, can see Hetty and decides that going on a date with Hetty would be a good way to get over his heartbreak. Jay and Sam don’t want it to happen, but the ghosts encourage them to allow Hetty to go on the date.
It goes as Sam and Jay worry, though. Sunil wants something more serious with Hetty, and naturally, she can’t. Rather than get out of the situation in a normal way, she ends up running through a closed door. Sunil is about to find out about the ghosts!
Sunil takes it pretty well, although Sam and Jay will want to work on their shocked faces next St. Patrick’s Day. Sure enough, Hetty’s power is only for one day, which is going to be a lot of fun as the day comes up again next season and the season after that. I can’t wait to see who she gets to interact with in the future.
Also, I adore the tiered ghost powers, but I do agree with Sass and think that his power is Tier 1 as well.
Ghosts airs on Thursdays at 8:30/7:30c on CBS and catch up on Paramount+. Keep in mind that the series is heading on a break for the next few weeks, though.
