After more than 50 years on CBS, the Grammy Awards will be airing (and streaming!) elsewhere.

It's one of the biggest nights in music, honoring the very talented singers, songwriters, and creatives in the industry. The Grammy Awards are so iconic, and they've been a staple on CBS for more than 50 years. However in just a few, the awards ceremony will begin airing elsewhere.

Starting in 2027, the Grammy Awards will be broadcast live on ABC, as well as Disney's streaming services Hulu and Disney+, per TVLine. Under this new agreement, Disney platforms will be the places to go for the next nine years as the company has the rights to broadcast the Grammys until 2036. Once we reach 2027, that will have been a 54-year run for the event on CBS.

Disney has been setting itself up for more live coverage on its streamers in the last few years. That started with Dancing with the Stars, which has found success in streaming live on both ABC and Disney+. You can even watch ABC News live on the platform as well.

With the age of streaming, as well as so many networks and platforms out there, it's a good idea to consolidate when possible. And this is one step in doing so. This increases the possibility for more viewership and exposure as well. Especially for teens who are fans of many of the nominees. They're more likely to head online to tune in

It's also normal for awards shows to switch networks, even after being on one for a long time. The Oscars for example were first broadcast on NBC in 1953 before ABC took over a few years later in 1960. And it's still the network that provides the iconic Academy Awards.

And the Grammys actually didn't first start out on CBS first. The ceremony was actually also on ABC for a little bit in the '70s. Check out the official timeline of the event's broadcast networks below:

  • NBC: 1959-1970
  • ABC: 1971-1972
  • CBS: 1973-2026
  • ABC: 2027-2036 (could be extended later)
