There’s a classic saying “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,” but what about Oakland? That’s up for debate in Grey’s Anatomy season 21, episode 13.
The end of the previous episode saw Teddy and Owen find a way to make their marriage work. They want to open their marriage. Well, Teddy does. Owen is clearly still on the fence, but he is doing this because he doesn’t want another divorce. The question is whether either of them can stick to the rules they have in place.
Open marriages can work, but both people in the couple need to respect the rules and boundaries put in place. Grey’s Anatomy could offer a positive look at polyamory if it does this right.
Teddy and Cass end up at the same conference in Grey’s Anatomy season 21, episode 13
The promo starts with Bailey and Teddy on the way to Oakland for a medical conference. Owen knows what is sure to happen while there, but he probably didn’t expect to find out that Cass was at the conference as well. This goes as you would expect. After all, Teddy has already said that she’s interested in Cass, and now she and Owen have opened their marriage.
Meanwhile, Blue’s girlfriend Molly is going through brain surgery. When she found out that there was a potential way to get her memories of Blue back, she knew she had to do it. She’s done with living in this fog, feeling something and not understanding why. This is a high-risk surgery, though, and Blue seems to think that he knows better than Amelia Shepherd.
I get that Blue wants to protect Molly, but telling Simone not to let Amelia push her around is ridiculous. We’ve seen what happens when interns and residents don’t listen to the attendings, especially with brain surgery. Lexie followed Meredith’s suggestion of getting a small tumor on a patient against Derek’s advice, and it led to that patient losing the ability to speak because of it.
While all that goes on, Igby Rigney is back as Dr. Scott Marcus. He made it clear that his younger, talkative ways irritate Jo Wilson, and that’s going to come up in the new episode. While he irritates Jo, it doesn’t mean that he’s wrong. Some people will prefer his medical care than Jo’s, and she could still learn somethings from him. I just hate that it means Carina DeLuca isn’t coming back to Grey’s Anatomy despite still working at the hospital.
