Grey’s Anatomy is about to take an extended break, but when season 22 returns with the final episodes of the season, it seems ABC’s long-running medical drama will be welcoming back more than a few familiar faces!
As we gear up for the end of the season, it seems our latest disaster to strike the city of Seattle is a bridge collapse, which will impact the lives of two members of the Grey Sloan family.
In the promo for the episode, Ben informs Teddy that the Royer Bridge has collapsed as she comments that it’s the bridge Owen takes to work. The moment plays over a shot of Owen at the scene of the bridge collapse, his car in the water and sinking fast as we see Owen passed out with a head injury.
Owen isn’t the only one who seems to be injured in the car, as Nick is also injured and raced to Grey Sloan. That’s right, both Scott Speedman and Ellen Pompeo will be returning in episode 17, marking their first appearance since episode 9, “Fortunate Son.” It’s unclear whether Meredith was with Nick when he was injured, but the promo shows her requesting Bailey’s help as she tells her she’s needed in the OR 2, and it’s Nick who needs treatment as we see an injured Nick being wheeled in on a stretcher.
Owen and Nick aren't the only ones in need of urgent medical treatment as a result of the bridge collapse, though.
The promo also confirms the return of Station 19 star Danielle Savre, who will be reprising her role as Maya Bishop in the episode. It seems Bishop is injured while on the job, and this hits close to home for Ben, who is quick to rush into action to help treat his former Station 19 colleague. This marks the first appearance from a member of the Station 19 cast since the show's series finale in 2024, and the return has fans eager to see if other alums from the spinoff might appear in the episode.
With Maya being injured on the job, we'd have to imagine at least one other Station 19 character would return, with Stefania Spampinato being the most likely candidate to make a surprise appearance. After all, if Maya is injured, we imagine Carina would race to her side to be with her at the hospital.
Knowing Grey's Anatomy, it's going to be interesting to see how the final two episodes of the season play out. The show is known for its season-ending deaths, and fans are certainly feeling anxious after Owen, Nick, and Maya's lives were all put in jeopardy via the promo. Hopefully the trio will all pull through, but there is truly no telling what the writers might have planned given the show has never been one to play it safe.
