Heading into Grey’s Anatomy season 22, episode 13, “Love the Way You Lie,” there was one burning question on the minds of fans: Was Jules’ future at Grey Sloan truly in jeopardy?
It was an understandable question to have after the events of episode 12, which saw Jules and Mohanty facing an M&M after their patient’s surgery was botched by wrongly placed sutures. We at home know that it was Mohanty who was responsible for stitching the man’s flap right over the blood supply, with her negligence resulting in the patient needing multiple surgeries to save his life. However, the promos for the episodes suggested that Jules was about to be thrown under the bus; this led to a fear among fans as to how the M&M would unfold and whether Jules could lose her job.
As episode 13 opens, Mohanty and Jules are both preparing for the M&M in very different ways. Mohanty attempts to use Blue to distract herself from the stress of the M&M, but he’s called off before their makeout session in the on-call room goes far. Meanwhile, Jules is in her head and running through her presentation on her way to the M&M.
As the doctors gather, Toni opens the M&M before turning things over to Jules to begin presenting the case. Bailey questions whether any pre-op scans showed cause for concern as she inquires about the team, and Jules mentions this point was her and Mohanty. Toni inquires whether rules were clearly defined as she inquires about who placed the stitch, pointing out that the patient is only here in the hospital still because of someone’s negligence.
Toni again presses for an answer about who placed the stitch, and Mohanty steps in to note that it’s on her. However, rather than owning up to it, she notes that she should have watched Jules more closely, which she takes full responsibility for as her advisor.
Winston asks Jules if she used a lot of tension when she placed the stitch, and Jules interjects that she didn’t place the stitch. Toni asks Mohanty whether she did or did not allow Jules to place the stitch, to which she notes that Jules specifically asked to do some of the suturing. Jules cuts her off, noting that Mohanty said no. Winston asks if she’s saying Mohanty is lying as he points out that one of them is not telling the truth. Jules begins to get emotional as she notes she only closed the abdomen and wasn’t anywhere near the pedicle, to which Winston bluntly notes that if Jules can’t own up to her mistake, they have a much more serious problem.
As the M&M breaks, Jules pulls Mohanthy aside and confronts her for lying when she knows she was not the one who placed the stitch. Mohanty brushes it off, noting Jules is a resident and residents are supposed to make mistakes. She then cuts Jules off as she notes she has patients to see.
Jules is spiraling after the M&M as Blue walks in, and she confronts him about how his girlfriend is a liar and has thrown her under the bus. He notes Mohanty can’t be a liar, as both her parents are doctors, and Jules lays into him for being a crappy friend as she storms off determined to fix it.
Blue goes to see Mohanty, and she tells him that as long as she doesn’t majorly screw anything up, she’s going to have options, as Boston’s in the bag, but Grey Sloan is fighting to keep her. As long as she doesn’t majorly screw anything up, she’ll have options.
Blue asks if she blamed Jules during the M&M, and she admits that she is so close to the payoff after all these. He realizes she did lie, to which she replies that surgery is cutthroat and suggests it was a small mistruth to get what she needed. He points out this is more than a little white lie, as she notes she’ll figure some way to help Jules if she gets an attending job at Grey Sloan.
Jules goes to see Toni to ask about Scott, who is not doing great. Jules notes she has worked hard to build a good reputation herself and can’t stand by and watch it go down the drain. She again notes that Mohanty lied in the M&M and she didn’t stitch over the pedicle. She doesn’t know why Mohanty lied, but Jules assures her it wasn’t her who placed the stitch. Toni calls it a sob story and notes that status matters and people are desperate and insecure. She needs her surgeons to not be immature and get sucked into the drama, as she informs Jules she’s been pulled off the case and tags Blue in to replace her.
The good news is that Jules is not going anywhere, but things were not cleared up right away by the episode's end, though resolution should be coming in the next episode.
As the episode ends, Blue informs Mohanty he turned down the offer to take over for Jules, as he notes they're not as alike as he thought. Mohanty asks if he told Toni about her lie, and he admits he did not, as he wanted to give her the chance to come clean on her end. As he walks away, he wishes her the best in getting the job in Boston, bringing their fling to an end.
Meanwhile, Jules goes to see Winston and admits today sucked, but the worst part was that it confirmed what he thinks of her. She doesn’t care what anyone else thinks, as he assures her he believes her. They almost kiss before she pulls away.

Katie's time is running out
Early in the episode, we learn that Katie’s health is worsening, prompting Bailey to order more scans to see just how bad things are. Sadly, it’s worse than expected, as Katie is in multiple organ failure, and there’s nothing more they can do other than make her comfortable in her final days.
When Bailey and Simone inform Katie of her declining health, Katie pushes to go home. Bailey tries to explain that if she leaves, insurance won’t cover the costs of the equipment needed, but Katie is adamant about going home. Realizing there is only one person who can get through to Katie, Bailey brings in Lucas, who convinces her to stay at the hospital until in-home hospice care can be arranged. The only problem is that she likely won’t make it home by the time hospice gets things set up, and the one thing Katie wants is to not die in a hospital.
Lucas suggests to Simone that they could take Katie to their house, as he notes he’ll ask for time off to care for Katie himself. Simone quickly jumps onto the idea, noting they’ll take shifts and can rope in Blue as well to help. They present the plan to Bailey, and she notes as a leader in the hospital, she cannot advise for it but gives her support subtly as she walks the pair through what all they’ll need to make it happen.
The promo for episode 14 reveals they indeed manage to get Katie set up at Simone's home, and it looks like the episode could very well be the end of her story.
