Before High Potential season 3 begins production this summer, the hit series has named its new showrunners, and they are experts at crafting mysteries.

Shortly after High Potential concluded its epic sophomore run on ABC, we're getting our first major piece of news about the forthcoming third season, and it's definitely music to fans' ears.

Following the jaw-dropping season 2 finale, which left a character's life hanging in the balance, there were a few behind-the-scenes shakeups for the series. Steve Howey, a new addition to the season 2 main cast, will no longer be a series regular in season 3, and perhaps the most concerning shakeup is the show's second showrunner exit in its lifespan.

Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas was originally set as the High Potential showrunner, but before the series premiered in September 2024, Todd Harthan stepped in to replace Thomas. Harthan remained the showrunner for the first and second seasons, but when ABC renewed the show for season 3 in March 2026, Harthan's exit from the series was also announced.

Thankfully, before filming for High Potential season 3 begins later this summer, we have now learned who will be taking over Harthan's perch as the show's boss. We're not just getting one showrunner but two as sisters Nora and Lilla Zuckerman are the showrunners. Their involvement was announced on May 6 and comes as part of the duo's overall deal with 20th Television.

Nora and Lilla Zuckerman are the new High Potential showrunners

If the Zuckerman sisters sound familiar, it's because they were the showrunners for the first season of Peacock's original crime comedy-drama procedural Poker Face. Before stepping down after the show's first season, Nora and Lilla helped set the tone for the Natasha Lyonne series, which has quite a bit in common with High Potential.

Both shows center on smart and clever women who have a knack for knowing when people are lying and can read between the lines of any situation, which comes in handy when investigating murder mysteries. The Zuckermans will no doubt bring the expertise they brought to Peacock's murder mystery to help freshen up High Potential and make season 3 even better than season 2.

Upon the announcement of their showrunner duties, Nora and Lilla shared a statement: "We are so grateful to be working with Craig, Karey, Simran and our partners at 20th and ABC on this exciting new chapter of High Potential. The fact we get to collaborate with Drew, Sarah, and Andrea at Goddard Textiles and the incomparable Kaitlin Olson is a dream come true. We’re looking forward to climbing into the brilliant, bustling mind of Morgan Gillory and crafting intricate mysteries worthy of her genius."

Before taking over High Potential and working on Poker Face, the Zuckermans have written for other television shows, including Fringe, Human Target, Haven, Suits, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Prodigal Son. For the past year, they had been working as the writers and executive producers of Hulu's Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot New Sunnydale, but the series ultimately wasn't picked up. Earlier this year, they were also announced to be writing the script for Scream 8.

High Potential fans shouldn't be worried that the series is switching showrunners (again), especially with how qualified the Zuckermans are to step into this world and steer the ship in the right direction. While season 2 was great television, the follow-up season struggled to much the lighter tone of season 1 and delved into darker territory. We're 100 percent in the right hands for season 3!

High Potential season 3 premieres on ABC this fall.
