High Potential scores a season 2 renewal: How many episodes will we get?

The potential paid off! ABC's High Potential has been renewed for a second season. Here's what we know so far!

It's official! ABC's freshman drama series, High Potential, has been renewed for a second season. The series quickly found its audience when it premiered in fall 2024, and I guess you could say that the story and characters had a lot of... potential (I'll see myself out).

The show is ABC's top-watched new series, and is second only to Matlock on CBS, so it makes sense for the show to be picked up this early in the season. The cast and creative team can feel the love from fans too. The ratings and response to the show have been overwhelmingly positive, and we hope this means High Potential season 2 will earn a larger episode order.

In a recent interview with TVLine, actor Daniel Sunjata said he and the rest of the cast were expecting to hear about a renewal this year. “We would all be shocked if we don’t get [a second season] at this point,” he said. “The numbers have been so good, the performance of the show has been so good, and the response has been so warm. We’ve been so warmly received by the audience we’re cultivating.”

The show celebrated the announcement of High Potential season 2 with a shot video on Instagram (watch below!). There aren't many details yet about what to expect in the new season, but it likely means that fans will be left with a major cliffhanger at the end of season 1 later this spring.

How many episodes will High Potential season 2 have?

At this time, ABC has not announced how many episodes will be included in High Potential season 2, but we have some clues based on what ABC has done in the past. This year, the series was given a 13-episode order, similar to what happened with its other new-ish quirky, popular crime show, Will Trent. Will Trent season 2 is a bit of an anomaly because of the entertainment industry strikes leading to a shortened season, but it's third season was bumped up to an 18-episode order.

It's possible that when High Potential returns it will still have a 13-episode order (same number as this year), but I think it's likely the series will be bumped up to include several more episodes, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for 18 episodes or more.

High Potential is still airing new episodes of its first season Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, with streaming becoming available Wednesdays on Hulu. Check back with Hidden Remote for news and updates about what to expect when the series returns next year!
