After its intense midseason finale, High Potential is finally back with new episodes! The hit freshman drama series on ABC follows Morgan Gillory, a single mother who works as a 3rd shift cleaning lady at a police department in LA. But with an IQ of 160, she ends up landing a consulting job in the department after she helped solve a murder from the evidence she saw when tidying. But her boss, Adam Karadec, isn't a fan of Morgan joining the team.
Karadec is often reluctant to have Morgan involved in a case, but over the first batch of episodes, we see him learn to appreciate her unique set of skills. They're an unlikely duo with great comedic banter, and it's their work relationship that acts as the secret sauce for why the series works so well. So obviously, fans are interested to learn more about how their friendship will continue to evolve in the rest of the season.
What's in store for Morgan and Karadec in High Potential?
Recently, High Potential's showrunner Todd Harthan spoke to TVLine about what fans can expect in the second batch of episodes airing in early 2025. Harthan teased that "there’s a scene in the midseason premiere that really speaks to what these two people mean to each other and how we’re going to evolve that relationship moving forward."
Harthan also acknowledged that some fans are hoping for Karadec and Morgan's relationship to become a romantic one, while others want to see their relationship develop solely as friends and sleuthers. In the midseason premiere, Harthman teased that Karadec and Morgan's deeper scene will be "the one where the audience will go, ‘I’m rooting for these two, whether it’s a romantic interest or not. I just love them together.'”
So what else do we know about the midseason premiere? The episode is titled "Obsessed," where Karadec, Morgan, and the team investigate the murder of a mysterious young girl who was found attacked on a beach. New photos from the episode also seem to indicate that Morgan will be working on the case over at Karadec's home. It's likely that this episode will explore more of the characters' personal lives, and I am very eager to see how this sets up the remaining episodes in the season.
The midseason premiere of High Potential (where we'll see that scene teased above) airs Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 9/8c on ABC.
Season 1 will have 13 episodes in total, and the first seven episodes of High Potential are currently available to stream if you need to catch up. The remaining six episodes will drop on Wednesdays on Hulu following their airdate on ABC!
