High Potential is taking a break before its fall finale, which is going to be a huge one for fans of the ABC mystery!

High Potential has been living up to its name for ABC. The show was first ordered in early 2023 and announced as being picked up for series. It was meant to debut for the 2023-24 season but, like all network shows, was pushed back by the 2023 Hollywood strikes. By the time the strikes wrapped up in November of 2023, ABC decided to simply hold High Potential back for the 2024-25 season.

It’s been working well, with the series’ debut episode earning 11.5 million viewers with replays online. It’s kept steady in the ratings with more viewers discovering and enjoying its fun take on a murder mystery procedural.

The show has been doing well but will be taking off Tuesday, Nov. 5. The obvious reason is that it’s Election Night, and ABC will be covering the various races. However, the show is back on Tuesday, Nov. 12 for its fall finale, which promises to be a big episode!

What’s coming on the High Potential fall finale?

The show’s next episode on Tuesday, Nov. 12 is billed as the fall finale, meaning it won’t be back until early 2025 after this. It looks to be a thriller as Morgan is showing her daughter Ava around the station when a pair of people take everyone hostage with a bomb. They’re not crooks but rather claiming someone close to them was wrongly convicted and they want the cops to prove his innocence. That leaves Morgan to try and defuse things.

"Morgan agrees to show Ava around the LAPD, but things quickly take a dangerous turn when the precinct is held hostage by the friends of a recently convicted man. Can Morgan and the detectives outsmart their captors and lead everyone to safety?"

The episode looks to be a “bottle episode,” set in one location of the police station. Having Ava around will be a major challenge for Morgan as it’s less her life at stake than her daughter’s. There’s also the question of whether the hostage-takers are right and whether the man is innocent with Morgan’s skills put to the test.

What is High Potential about?

Based on a French show, the series follows Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson), a woman possessing an amazing 160 IQ, allowing her to retain scores of knowledge and an eye for detail. The drawback is that her mind is constantly working and making it hard for Morgan to keep a job or a relationship as she raises three kids.

While working as a cleaning lady at an LAPD station, Morgan sees an evidence board and rearranges the clues to solve a crime that baffles the cops. Recognizing her skills, Captain Selena (Judy Reyes) hires Morgan as a consultant with Morgan paired with Detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) on cases.

Besides working these cases, Morgan wants the LAPD to help her hunt down one of her exes who vanished fifteen years ago. While everyone thought the guy had just run off, Selena found evidence his car was abandoned and something had happened to him.

So fans have to wait one more week for High Potential and while there’s no word yet on a renewal, fans are hopeful it will continue its great run for a while.

High Potential returns Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 10/9c on ABC.
