The latest episode of Will Trent finally had Will and Angie having it out, so is there hope for their relationship?

Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for Will Trent Season 3

Fans of Will Trent were rocked hard by the Season 2 finale. When he discovered longtime love Angie (Erika Christensen) had covered up a murder, which later led to five more men being killed, Will (Ramon Rodriguez) had no choice but to arrest her in the middle of the station.

As Season 3 opened six months later, Will had left Atlanta before being tracked down by boss Amanda. He eventually returned to the GBI despite how partner Faith wasn't happy with him leaving. Meanwhile, Angie managed to avoid jail time and worked security in a neighborhood while hoping to get back on the Atlanta PD.

In Episode 3, Angie managed to catch a killer, which got her reinstated as a cop. This made Episode 4 unique as the GBI and APD worked together on a case. It was an unusual one as someone was making people believe the CIA recruited them to take out "targets" which was all a way to steal some material from one victim. That included some homages to the classic ABC spy show Alias

What happened between Will and Angie in Will Trent?

Will and Angie were the first to meet at the murder scene and the awkwardness was off the charts. They tried to be professional as everyone else recognized the issues. Angie was also there when Will met with ADA Maron Alba (Gina Rodriguez), who revealed she was in the process of getting a divorce.

The pair finally had it out at a local diner in a heated fight. Angie was upset at Will blowing up her life and arresting her in front of the entire station. Will was mad Angie didn't accept what she'd done was wrong and he was bound by his duty to arrest her. The sad thing is, the audience could see both their points well.

Yes, what Angie did was wrong, and covering up a murder made it worse, but she was pressed to help someone she thought needed it. She never expected that victim to turn around and start killing other abusers. Will arresting her was the right thing to do according to his strict code, but he didn't have to do it in front of everyone.

After the case was solved, Angie came to Will's office to say that they could never go back to where they were and declared "Wilbur Trent, I release you." So is this truly the end?

Are Will and Angie truly over?

Speaking to TVLine, co-showrunner Liz Heldens praised the actors for taking an already good script and the idea of the two being accidentally locked inside the diner to add to the tension. As for whether Angie meant what she said to Will, it's a bit complicated.

"You know, we all say things one day and feel differently the next day. We try. You say you're going to change, and you stumble, so we'll see. But I think she meant it in the moment."

As noted, both Will and Angie are convinced they were in the right with their actions and the other made things worse. Obviously, this was a breaking point as it's pretty hard to get back together romantically after one person has sent the other to jail and nearly ruined their careers.

The emotional and psychological baggage both carry is another factor with both having plenty of past issues. They've always leaned on each other for support and help, but this may be too much. One can hope they can at least become friendly and that bond is so strong. But getting back to romance may be too far.

This does seem to pave the way for Will and Maron to hook up while Angie is expected to meet a doctor played by Scott Foley in a future episode. Yet some shippers may still hold out hope Will and Angie get together. It's simply going to be a very long and hard road to get back to the same level of partnership they once had.

Will Trent Season 3 airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC.
