After two seasons the series Watson concluded its run on CBS on May 3. The show was recently canceled by the network and had to find a way to wrap up its storylines before the finale aired this past Sunday.

The episode brought in a lot of emotional weight and wrapped up the story in a way that gave the audience hope for the characters in the series. While the cancellation might have been sudden, the final episode of the series, "The Cobalt Fissure," allows the audience to say goodbye to Watson.

For starters, Ingrid who has been by Watson's side from the beginning is able to get away with the possible crime and murder of Beck Wythe seen previously. She is then allowed back into her group therapy for antisocial personality disorder.

As Watson is grappling with whether to have surgery for his possible tumor, it gives Ingrid and actress Inga Schlingmann a great scene between her and Morris Chestnut (Watson). She emotionally pleads with him to go about the surgery, in a scene that gives the two actors closure and a moment of genuine friendship.

Shinwell is able to foil a plan to harm both Watson and the returning Sherlock Holmes. Despite him having to resort to violence, he is forgiven for his transgressions by Carlin. It seems the two have a tough road ahead but will stay strong and together.

The emotional arc of the series finale has to do with Watson and his relationship with Sherlock Holmes and Morstan (ex-wife). The finale gives him a chance to speak to both.

In the penultimate episode, Holmes could not remember who he is. But due to the medical staff and discovery by Watson, they are able to conclude that both of them have CTX. Holmes gets better and the simple moments between him and Watson give fans of the series and the franchise, fond memories.

The episode concludes with Watson and Mary reconciling before he goes into surgery. The final moments are Watson about to be operated on. Or so we thoguht.

After the title card airs, we see a scene where Watson is home with Mary on Baker Street. They seem to be together and happy on a rainy night.

The last scene, gives the audience a chance to decide for themselves as to whether or not he died in surgery, is dreaming during the operation, or perhaps they pair found their way back to one another in the end. Sometimes those are the best kind of endings to a series and will leave the question open.

With the finale airing, it is now up to the fanbase to see if the series gains a cult following, but at least the show's unplanned series finale gave fans some closure and didn't leave too many storylines unresolved.
