If there's one thing all television fans love, it's a good will-they-or-won't-they-relationship that leaves us yearning and pining along with the characters on screen. High Potential has truly mastered the art of the push-and-pull between professional partners in a procedural drama with Morgan and Karadec, whose relationship has deepened so much in only two seasons.
The ABC crime dramedy has a lot for viewers to look forward to going into the third season this fall, but more so than the lingering Roman mystery or the fate of Steve Howey's Nick Wagner. But we're also still in line for a new development in Morgan and Karadec's partnership. Despite that charged moment in the season 2 finale, the pair haven't yet crossed the line.
According to Kaitlin Olson, that just might be by design. The High Potential star spoke with People to unpack the status and trajectory of the fan-favorite duo, including whether the future could be bright for them to maybe, actually, finally get together. Well, as she tells it, there's definitely love between them, but whether they will act on it depends on their complicated feelings.

"For me, it's so fun to lead people down a road where you're like, 'Oh, are they falling in love, or are they just really good friends? Maybe they're falling in love, or maybe they're just friends, or maybe they're just really good partners.' But sometimes those lines get crossed, sometimes feelings get confusing, sometimes you have feelings for someone and then you put it onto someone else," Olson said.
She continued explaining, "Life and love are challenging, confusing, heartbreaking and wonderful, and I think we are just trying to explore all of those things." Olson addressed the definite chemistry and connection between Morgan and Karadec, which is already a complex situation given that they work together. But throw in other relationships and a confusing situation becomes even more confusing.
Some viewers might have been frustrated that High Potential season 2 kept the gulf growing between Morgan and Karadec as they explored other romantic avenues. For Karadec, he rekindled his relationship with his ex-fiancée Lucia, and just like all kindling, getting back together unfortunately sparked and went down in flames. But Olson says that was important to see.
As much as his partnership with Morgan shows his humanity and showcases that they "really do have love for each other," putting Karadec in a new romance was important for his development and for that of Morgan and Karadec. "You want to see that he's going to open up his heart. Then listen, heartbreak is so universal. You got to throw that into your show," the star explained.
Just as Karadec and Lucia's second chance didn't pan out, the High Potential season 2 finale ended with Morgan's blossoming connection with Wagner possibly being extinguished before it could really even get off the ground. Morgan meets Wagner as planned, but she finds that he's been stabbed and his life is on the life—if he's not already dead, which would be an even deeper heartbreak.
Whether Morgan and Karadec find their way to each other in way that transcends friendship or their working partnership in High Potential season 3 remains to be seen. There's still Roman to keep an eye out for next season, which could further keep the duo apart. Even if they don't get romantic just out, we can rest easy knowing that they will always be by each other's side with some kind of love.
