An NCIS reunion is finally happening in an upcoming episode of NCIS: Origins. Michael Weatherly will make his debut in the prequel series as Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs returns to NCIS headquarters.
The third episode, which will air on Tuesday, Oct. 20, will find Gibbs returning to Washington, D.C., to ask for help from the newly appointed NCIS Director Tony DiNozzo, TVLine reports. Obviously, when we last saw them, Tony was leaving after working alongside Gibbs for over a decade in 2016. Now we will see them in a reversal of roles as Tony has returned to NCIS and Gibbs is retired.
Gibbs is looking to receive help from Tony after being shot by two unknown men in the season 3 premiere episode. Most likely, he will want Tony’s help in protecting the second person he believes they are after. In a new photo preview, Gibbs is seen meeting with Tony in what looks to be either Jimmy Palmer’s office or a waiting room. This is such an exciting moment for fans who have wanted to see them together on screen once again.
There is a possibility we will find out who Gibbs thinks is in danger beforehand, since he is meeting with Woody in the Tuesday, Oct. 13 episode of NCIS: Origins. In the past, Gibbs and his team tried to determine if Woody is being framed for murder, and most likely this event will lead present-day Gibbs to ask older Woody for help.
Whatever brings Gibbs to Woody’s doorstep is part of a mystery that NCIS: Origins is working on for the season, and we’re excited to see if any other current or past characters pop up around Gibbs as he searches for answers about his attack in Alaska.
Episode 3, where Tony and Gibbs reunite, is called “Return of the Mack” and will also see Adam Campbell return as a young Dr. Ducky Mallard. He will be helping the team determine who killed a young Marine whose body was found on a beach and bore strange markings all over his body. The episode will air on CBS at 10/9c.
NCIS: Origins only has 10 episodes for this season, so we’re sure that the storyline involving Gibbs won’t wait too long to give us answers. But we are excited to see Tony and Gibbs reunite and how their new dynamic plays out, given the new roles they now have since 2016.
