Since making its debut last fall, Matlock season 2 has been on a non-stop mission as Matty and Olympia teamed up to bring down Senior. The second season remained focused on its season-long arc while delving into cases of the week, taking unexpected turns throughout the weeks that we never saw coming. Who could have expected Julian to join the team to defeat his father?

But the season's quickly reaching its end point, with the two-part Matlock season 2 finale scheduled to air on Thursday, April 23 at 9/8c. Ahead of the second season ending, CBS revealed the synopsis for the two-hour season finale, which previews yet another bump in the road for the Wellbrexa cover up case's conclusion. There's no doubt they can overcome one more hurdle.

What to expect from the Matlock season 2 finale

Matlock season 2 episodes 15 and 16, titled "Who Are You?" and "Matty Matlock," bring the near-perfect season of television to it end with what's sure to be the team's closest swing at Senior yet. On top of taking on a case involving an airport ramp operator connected to a passenger's death, a new twist appears to prevent Matty and Olympia from taking Senior down once and for all.

Here's the synopsis for both episodes as shared by CBS: "The team confronts an unexpected final hurdle they need to overcome to bring Senior to justice for his role in the Wellbrexa cover up. Meanwhile, they defend an airport ramp operator accused of safety negligence in the death of a passenger, on a special two-hour second season finale."

The synopsis doesn't provide much information about what the new hurdle is that the team faces or even hint at what it could be. Is it a person? Does it have to do with the merger at the firm? Is it a direct threat from Senior? The possibilities are endless as to what could set the team back, but at least Matty, Olympia, and Julian appear to be a united front as we can see from the photo above.

CBS also shared more photos from the Matlock season 2 finale, which gives us a first look at Gina Rodriguez's guest starring role as a character named Lida Guitierrez. In the photos shared of Rodriguez, her character sits behind a desk with papers strewn in front of her. She could be another lawyer the team turns to or she could even be part of the hurdle they need to overcome.

In addition to the main cast members and Rodriguez appearing as a guest star, the Matlock season 2 finale will also feature appearances from Patricia Belcher as Mrs. Emmalyn Belvin, Sarah Wright Olsen as Gwen Easton, Justina Machado as Eva Muñoz, Randy Alexander Gonzalez as Felix Dominguez, and Riki Lindhome as Izzy Dominguez as revealed in the season finale photos.

There are likely more surprises in store for the two-hour finale, including a cliffhanger that we probably won't see coming from a mile away. Make sure not to miss either of the episodes leading up to the finale, which airs on Thursday, April 23 at 9/8c on CBS, also streaming on Paramount+!
