There's bad news about Murder in a Small Town tonight (Oct. 29)

Murder in a Small Town won’t be airing for a couple of weeks! When does the Fox mystery show return?

Murder in a Small Town is a unique show as it’s a Canadian production airing on Fox. Based on the novels by L.R. Wright, the show is set in the British Columbia town of Gibsons as Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland), a big-city cop, relocates to become the sheriff. He soon forms a bond with local librarian Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk) that becomes a romance. 

The show is connecting with some intriguing turns, like how each episode has a big guest star as part of the case. They range from Stana Katic as a woman with a secret to Kreuk’s former Smallville co-star, Erica Durance, as an old friend of Cassandra’s tied to a case. 

Episode 5 was a gripping one as Cassandra was abducted by Gordon Murphy (Devon Sawa) with Karl frantically searching for her. Murphy was really Paul Wheeler, a crook Karl had arrested back when he was a beat cop, leading to his life being ruined. Wheeler wanted revenge on Karl by taking away someone he cared about. Eventually, Karl managed to rescue Cassandra and beat down Wheeler but Cassandra didn’t want to see Karl afterward.

That was a very powerful episode, and a good thing it aired now, as it will be a bit before a new installment comes.

Why is Murder in a Small Town taking a break?

Fans of the show may be annoyed that it will be a few weeks before a new episode but it can’t be helped. First, Tuesday, Oct. 29 has Fox committed to airing Game 4 of the World Series. The Fall Classic is always a big deal for the network and is more notable this year with a top matchup between the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers. As Game 4 is set to be a pivotal one, Fox will dedicate programming to it. 

Then Tuesday, Nov. 5 is Election Night, so obviously, Fox will be delaying any programming for ongoing coverage of the various races. This means fans of Murder in a Small Town need to be ready for a break before it returns. 

When does Murder in a Small Town return?

A promo confirms the show returns on Tuesday, Nov.on 12. The promo shows Cassandra still reeling from her abduction and not helped when a troubled killer arrives in town. As Karl hunts him down, Cassandra tries to overcome her trauma and the hint one officer may be badly wounded. 

November is the sweeps period for networks, and Fox is ready to keep up the show’s momentum and likely promote it during the World Series. So fans of Murder in a Small Town are going to have to put up with a few weeks off, but hopefully, the show makes up for it with more drama to become one of the fall’s best new series.
