The NCIS: Origins season 2 finale is set to air on May 5 and will see the team dealing with the possibility of the Camp Pendleton office being shut down. Even with all we know about Gibbs and where he would end up working, it is still jarring to imagine him anywhere else. Will the office be closed, and how will the ending affect the team as a whole?

In a TVInsider interview with Lala Dominguez’s Mariel Molino, she revealed that the possibility of the office being shut down would be a risk for the team and “losing the family we’ve built.” When it comes to Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell), his teammates have become “his chosen family” after already losing his wife and young daughter.

It is confirmed in the interview that season 2 will end on a cliffhanger and will have an emotional impact on the team. Molino described the cliffhanger as being focused on someone whom the team cares about a lot, and they will be left in “a very uncertain, very vulnerable place.”

Besides an office shutdown, not much is known about what the team will be working on while this is all happening. However, we do wonder if we will see more about Abe Pruitt since he has become quite the antagonist for Mike Franks.

The penultimate episode of the season saw Abe Pruitt being released from jail after the murder of his lawyer led to his affair with the AUSA being revealed. This meant multiple of his cases resulted in a mistrial, including Pruitt’s. So most likely, the season finale will find Franks tackling the issue of Pruitt once again.

Molino also hinted that we may see more when it comes to the relationship between Lala and Gibbs. Lala’s feelings for Gibbs have been growing despite recently losing her boyfriend, Manny, to witness protection. So, will anything happen with them in the episode? And knowing Gibbs, would he be ready for something so soon, especially after telling Lala he didn’t want to date ever again?

The sneak peeks for the episode have given us hints about what will happen, including who the new Director of NIS will be. It’s none other than Tom Morrow, who we know was the Director of NCIS when the original series began. Another sneak peek also gave us the first headslap, when Gibbs gets one and looks at Franks in confusion after it happens.

With all of these little nuggets in place, we’re looking forward to seeing more of Gibbs’s story unfold and whether the team will survive a possible shutdown of the Camp Pendleton office.

NCIS: Origins airs Tuesdays on CBS at 9/8c. Episodes are available the next day on Paramount+.
