Not only did NCIS: Origins give fans a treat with the return of Dr. Ducky Mallard, but we also got to meet his mother, Victoria. How did Ducky become involved in the latest case the agents investigated?

The case involved Lance Corporal Marco Diaz, whose body was found on a beach after he had been tortured before being killed. Given he had no marks on his record, the team needed to figure out if there was anything he was involved in that no one had discovered.

NCIS: Origins continues the mystery of who is after Gibbs as more beloved characters appear

While checking out his barracks, Gibbs discovered a bag full of cash hidden in an air vent. There was no recent robbery from any of the other agencies or sheriff’s departments, meaning they needed to determine how he got that amount of money.

Eventually, after Woody discovered a fiber found on Diaz’s body matched high-end luxury linens, evidence from markings found on Diaz and a notebook full of names of women and monetary amounts led them to believe he may have been involved in sex work. This throws everyone off at first, but eventually, they work to figure out who he may have been meeting.

The money is traced back to Russia, and when they talk to their informant Vlad from a previous episode, he tells them about a madam who might be involved. Gibbs manages to get a date with the last client that Diaz was with.

After Gibbs goes undercover and meets Mona and then proceeds to get beaten up by the woman’s suspicious husband, the team figures out how Diaz got a particular burn that puzzled Ducky. Mona knew Diaz had a girlfriend who liked to burn him and listed some off before Ducky figured out it was a car lighter. This particular lighter had a rare shape, so they easily figured out who the car belonged to. It belonged to Diaz’s boss, Staff Sergeant Combs. She had killed Diaz, likely after discovering what he was doing on the side.

In the meantime, Ducky’s mother also joined him in the episode, and while he was working, she met Kowalski after going to lunch with Vera. The two hit it off, much to Ducky’s dismay. However, a rant about traditional gender roles from Franks, who was put off by Agent Swanson asking him out before he could do so, led Ducky to realize he was trying to parent his mother. He wished her the best, and while she was going off to meet another gentleman, he took Gibbs to lunch, one of many that would seal their close bond.

During the present, Gibbs went to Tony at NCIS to get help finding out who left the print on his body. Tony is worried, especially since Gibbs refuses to see Jimmy for his wound since he is supposed to be dead. Eventually, after the two of them reminisce about the late Leon Vance and Ducky, Tony tells Gibbs that the print belonged to someone in the CIA.

The man who left the print, however, is likely not the shooter but was hired to track him. So he still has to determine who is after him, especially since the person who hacked the NCIS files had gone through personnel information from the ‘90s. They were likely trying to find the location for Gibbs and the other person they are after.

So far, the mystery of who is after Gibbs has already brought back some beloved characters, one of whom will be former NCIS Agent Ellie Bishop. So how will Ellie help Gibbs? We’ll have to wait for Tuesday, Oct. 27 to find out.
