The 2025-2026 television season is winding down soon, which is hard to believe, and this is true for NCIS. The hit CBS series, which will be going into its 24th season after the summer, is set to finish Season 23 in mid-May. But what do we know about the season finale?

CBS recently released the synopses for its television schedule for upcoming finales, including NCIS. Since there are still a handful of episodes to go before the finale, we really do not know what to expect for the characters themselves.

The episode, titled “Sons and Daughters,” makes mention of a coffee shop bombing that occurred a year prior and how a current attack was connected. According to the synopsis, the coffee shop attack had been believed to be the work of a lone wolf, but now it appears not to be the case.

As well as investigating the bombing, the synopsis mentions the case will lead the team to face “legacy and loyalty.” This particular section of the synopsis is interesting, and we wonder if mistakes were made under Director Leon Vance’s instructions. This could make the team feel protective of his legacy, but is that what is happening or something else?

Now we don’t know for sure if the director's previous handling of the case, if it did occur, will be what the team has to tackle, but considering his recent passing and the team's protectiveness over him, we can imagine they would want to ensure his legacy remained uncompromised. Dealing with a case that could have been handled incorrectly would certainly force them to handle this scenario.

All of this is speculation, and we will have to wait until Tuesday, May 12, to see what happens. In the meantime, a new episode is scheduled to air on April 14, titled “S.O.S.” The episode will follow the reappearance of a Navy lieutenant who had gone missing a year prior when her plane disappeared.

Actress Yael Grobglas, who also appears on the CBS series Matlock, will be making an appearance as Rebecca Lee, the lieutenant who went missing. The disappearance had not added up, so the team will have to work to make sense of what happened and where she has been for the last year.

One fun fact about the episode is it will be directed by Rocky Carroll, bringing him back to NCIS, at least behind the scenes.

So until the season finale airs in May, we still have plenty of episodes to go in seeing the NCIS team solving cases. In the meantime, you can watch the rest of the season on Paramount+.

NCIS airs Tuesdays on CBS at 8/7c.
