It hasn’t been long since the 911 season 9 finale aired, and we’re still thinking of the way Evan “Buck” Buckley’s arc ended. After a season filled with ups and, mostly, downs for the firefighter, he ended the season fostering his biological son, Theo. How did actor Oliver Stark describe how he was looking forward to what comes next for his character?

In an interview with TVLine, Stark spoke about Buck’s decision, which he felt came from seeing “all of his friends and his family with kids and feels at a place in his life emotionally where he can show up for somebody in that sense.”

Buck's storyline for Season 10 of 911 could explore the challenges of fostering

As a refresher, Buck was asked to be a sperm donor for his former friend and roommate, Connor, and his wife, Kameron, back in season 6. Buck eventually agreed and helped the couple conceive their son, who Buck also helped deliver in the season 6 finale.

Since then, Buck had kept his distance until Theo was brought back into his life in season 9, episode 17, during a call. Theo was a sweet, very energetic little boy whose parents were overwhelmed with how to help control his tenacity.

Unfortunately, Connor and Kameron were killed in a car accident, leaving Theo an orphan. However, Buck eventually decided to foster him, a decision that continues to be debated among fans.

There are still questions about how neither Connor nor Kameron had any family who could help raise Theo. Plus, with Buck’s recent addiction issues, is he really in a place where he can care for a child long term?

Stark said we could see season 10 explore “more about extended family and why Buck is the one that is able and necessary to maybe step up in that situation.” He also described how Buck doesn’t necessarily see himself as Theo’s father, nor did he consider if it would lead in that direction. This most likely means Buck could foster Theo until someone else in Connor or Kameron’s family could take him in.

He also didn’t rule out the possibility that it could lead to more, meaning Buck permanently adopts Theo. But he did give his thoughts about how “it will be important to show the difficulties involved with that process.”

Buck could also lean on his friends for guidance, whether from Hen and Karen Wilson, who have fostered before adopting their daughter Mara. Plus, his best friend, Eddie Diaz, is a single parent and could give Buck some insight there. However the show chooses to go about this storyline, we hope Buck will eventually find the happiness he deserves in life.

911 season 10 will arrive this fall on ABC.
