After some big episodes for various characters, the One Chicago shows are taking another break. What’s going on with the NBC schedule right now, and how long do we need to wait this time?

Yes, all three One Chicago shows are taking the night off. Med, Fire, and PD all warned us about this with the promos for the new episodes. This told us when the new episodes would air, and what we can expect in the episodes.

Chicago Fire - Season 13

Why are the One Chicago shows on a break?

The lack of new episodes are likely linked to scheduling needs. NBC has a finale date in mind, and there are only so many episodes to fit into those weeks available. The only way to spread them out is to bring us reruns every now and then. It’s annoying for us as fans, but I keep saying that it’s what we get for wanting episodes back in the winter so quickly!

There doesn’t seem to be another reason for the delay. The final episodes are in production right now, so there’s not as much of a risk of catching up on the finales before they’re ready. Plus, the trailers for the next episode are out, suggesting that it’s not an issue with post-production for those episodes.

There could be one more break to come. NBC hasn’t announced when the season finales will air. If there isn’t a break for the rest of the season, we will see the finales air on Wednesday, May 14. That does feel like a week too early for me, though.

When will Chicago Med, Fire, and PD return with new episodes?

The good news is that there isn’t much of wait for the new episodes. Chicago Med, Fire, and PD will all return next Wednesday, April 16. This was explained in the promos for each of the episodes.

Yes, we even have an idea of what to expect in the new episodes, and there are some exciting storylines to come.

Ripley is back in Chicago Med, and he admits that he made a mistake by throwing away everything with Hannah Asher. He wants to know if there’s a chance that they can get back together again, and it looks like she is considering it. Even her sister wants to know what the story is between them and if there’s a chance.

Meanwhile, Chicago Fire brings us the episode that we have all been waiting for. Wallace Boden is back, and we’re going to get a storyline that offers the same scene from different perspectives. This is always a fun way to tell a story, as it reminds us that everyone experiences something different within the same situation. After a major loss, Boden needs to get Firehouse 51 to look back over the events to find out what actually happened.

Then in Chicago PD, Reid is back. There’s been a car jacking with $500,000 worth of drugs inside. He needs Intelligence to find where the car is, and that will mean getting creative. Of course, Reid wants them to act outside of the law, but Voight is done with that life, especially when others tell him he needs to do it!
