If there is one couple we’ve had a lot of questions about succeeding as Grey’s Anatomy fans, it’s Teddy and Owen. Despite decades of friendship, their romantic relationship just hasn’t done that well. Now they’re back on the rocks.
At least now they’re admitting that there’s a major issue. During Grey’s Anatomy season 21, episode 11, Teddy admitted that she has feelings for Cass, and we know that Owen has acknowledged his feelings for Nora. With that confession, Teddy asked Owen what it meant for their marriage, which hints that they do still want to save it.
So, is there a way to do it? There is only one option.
Teddy and Owen need to accept their own failings in Grey’s Anatomy
The first stage is for the two of them to accept their own failings and flaws when it comes to the marriage. This will mean some criticism from each other, and they need to accept that criticism. It’s easy to feel emotional when someone says a problem is there, but they need to go into this stage with empathy and understanding for each other.
The Irrational has focused a little on this. Couples who argue but come from a place of understanding are more likely to succeed, and that’s something Teddy and Owen need to do.
Their biggest issue is their feelings for other people. Owen knows that if he continues to treat Nora, those feelings will continue to grow. Teddy needs to accept the same thing about Cass, because the more she hangs out with Cass, the more those feelings will grow. There’s nothing wrong with realizing that you’re feeling something for someone else, but you need to act in a way to reduce those feelings if you want your marriage to work.

Do Teddy and Owen want their marriage to work?
Another thing they need to consider is whether they even want their marriage to work. Is this right for them, or will they make better co-parents? There is no shame in admitting that they got married for the wrong reasons or at the wrong time.
If only one of them wants their marriage to work, then it’s not going to. We’ve seen up to this point in Grey’s Anatomy that they seem to want it to work, but then we have to question whether they want it to work for the right reasons. Do they want it to work because they love each other, or because they don’t want the judgment from others.
At the end of the day, I doubt that Grey’s Anatomy will keep Teddy and Owen together. It’s rare that couples can have arguments and marital problems and make things work. However, there is a way for the show to make this couple work if the writers want to.
Grey’s Anatomy airs on Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC.
