Heading into the Grey’s Anatomy season 22 finale, we knew that the episode was going to be an emotional one as it would be the final episode for two of the show’s longest-tenured stars.
Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver’s time on the show has come to an end with the season 22 finale serving as the final episode for Dr. Owen Hunt and Dr. Teddy Altman. Thankfully, the show gave the pair a rare happy ending which allowed them to leave the show together to start the next chapter of their lives.
In the finale, Owen made the decision to leave Seattle behind to join Teddy in Paris, so that she could accept the amazing opportunity that had been presented to her in the penultimate episode of the season.
“You were right. You moved continents for me. You have changed jobs. It is my turn to go with you. I don’t want to live in a world where we’re apart anymore. I have spent my whole life chasing adventure but the best thing I have ever done is our family. I would do anything for the three of you. You’re my life,” Owen professed to Teddy.
After wrapping things up at the hospital, the pair met outside the hospital to head home, giving them a rare happy ending which was fitting of the veteran cast members.
We knew to expect their exits and the show could not have crafted a more beautiful sendoff for the pair. What we did not expect was that Teddy and Owen might not be the only ones to leave Grey Sloan.

Grey’s Anatomy season 22 ends with Kwan being fired hinting he could be leaving the show
As fans will recall, in the penultimate episode of the season, Richard fired Kwan upon learning that he was the one who gave a patient an experimental drug without approval. Richard fired Kwan on the spot, but Kwan wasn’t going down without a fight.
When the hospital put out a call for all available surgeons to report to duty to assist with triage following the bridge collapse, Kwan showed up and Teddy quickly put him to work.
Once Richard found out that Kwan was working alongside Teddy, he reminded him that he had been fired and demanded he go home; however, Teddy stood up to Richard and refused to turn Kwan away. While performing a surgery, Teddy encouraged Kwan to show Richard that he’s special and needed at the hospital and Kwan took her advice.
“I am sorry for putting the program in jeopardy but until then my record has been impeccable. I’m quick under pressure and I’m technically skilled beyond my years. That patient might still be alive because of me. Today, patients are alive because of me. Isn’t that why we’re here? To save lives,” Kwan reasoned with Richard.
Sadly, Richard did not budge and took Kwan’s badge as he made it clear that what he did today meant nothing. If he shows up at the hospital again, Richard will call security.
The moment left Kwan’s future very much up in the air and it’s unclear whether we’ve seen the last of him. Doctors have been fired before only to find their way back and we have a feeling that will be the case for Kwan. However, we’ll have to wait until season 23 to learn whether Kwan’s time on the show has truly come to an end or if he will find a way back to the hospital someway.
