1,000 episodes and counting! NCIS has been renewed for another season
Great news NCIS fans! The hit CBS series has officially been picked up for a 22nd season. This is a huge milestone for the show and we’re so excited to continue to see more of the team in action.
So far, season 21 has been releasing some fun episodes, alongside the obvious heavy one that featured a tribute to David McCallum and Dr. Ducky Mallard. We’ve also learned more about Jessica Knight’s relationship with her father and dug into some arcs involving characters such as Nick Torres and Tim McGee.
In announcing the renewal for both NCIS and the CBS comedy The Neighborhood, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach stated, “They embody authentic storytelling with heart, humor, and daily dynamics. We are proud to bring them back next season.”
Since season 21 is shorter due to the writer’s strike, we’re already headed towards the final few episodes of the season. The season is expected to end on Monday, May 6, 2024. While it is almost certain we will fall into cliffhanger territory, at least the stories won’t be over!
We’re hoping that with season 22 beginning with a normal television schedule, we will have more time to go in depth into all of the characters. We’d love to see more of McGee and his wife, Delilah Fielding. Plus, Knight’s relationship with Jimmy Palmer is a fan favorite and we’d love to see how she interacts with Victoria, his daughter with his late wife.
There is also plenty to learn about Alden Parker so we might get an interesting arc for him as well. Kasie also alluded to having trouble with relationships so it would be great to see more of her in the upcoming season.
NCIS will also see a milestone episode coming on Monday, April 15. The show will hit 1,000 episodes and we will get to see the return of Director LeRoy Vance’s son. Not only are we seeing his return, but we will also see NCIS: Hawaii’s Jane Tennant appear. Plus, NCIS: Los Angeles’s Daniela Ruah will also reprise her role, as previously reported.
In the promo for the new episode, multiple explosions have rocked DC and the team must figure out who is behind it. It also appears based on the promo that we will get callbacks to characters including former NCIS Director Tom Morrow and long deceased Agent Caitlin Todd.
The synopsis for the episode itself, “A Thousand Yards,” states, “NCIS comes under attack by a mysterious enemy from the past. Also, Vance tries to mend fences with his estranged son by explaining why, despite the ongoing dangers of his job, he still chooses to stay at NCIS.”
Whether this episode will have ramifications leading into the following season remains to be seen. However, we know it’s going to be an exciting episode of television. And with the renewal news, we’re excited for more episodes to come from the cast and crew.
