3 things we want to see in the Lionsgate and Blumhouse The Blair Witch Project reboot
By Sandy C.
Lionsgate and Blumhouse are working on The Blair Witch Project reboot, and fans have mixed feelings about this. First of all, do we want to go through the trauma again? Absolutely! Bring on all of the thrills and then some. I don't know about you, but The Blair Witch Project is one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. It could be because I watched it as a young teen, but the movie still holds up today.
The next question that comes to mind is, do we need it? Once again, at least in my opinion, the answer is yes! Horror fans always searching for the next big movie to watch. The genre will always be popular, especially cult classics such as The Blair Witch Project. The movie premiered in theaters on July 14, 1999, pretty much ruining our summers with nightmares. Worldwide, it reached $250 million at the box office, reportedly one of the most successful independent films of all time. The Blair Witch Project is also credited for giving new life to found-footage storytelling. Cloverfield and the Paranormal Activity franchise premiered shortly after, both also using the found-footage technique.
Working on The Blair Witch Project reboot is not the first time Blumhouse and Lionsgate have joined forces. Most recently, their latest collaboration is Imaginary, currently playing in theaters. Producer Roy Lee will be working on the upcoming reboot. Lee produced the 2016 Blair Witch.
Found-footage storytelling is a must
The upcoming The Blair Witch Project needs to be told in the same found-footage as the original. The blurry shots and fast-moving scenes are part of the excitement and authentic feel. Not only will this take us all back to how we felt watching the original movie, but modern technology is going to offer audiences better angles and views.
The Witch
Hear me out, I know that not getting to see the Blair Witch is what makes this movie so thrilling and mysterious. At the same time, I feel like we are not getting the complete story. I want to see the evil entity haunting the woods as I believe it will lead up to a very exciting and frightening moment.
The history of the Blair Witch
Both new and old fans of The Blair Witch Project need more backstory details about the Blair Witch. Getting the full story about who this being is, why it haunts the woods, and what the ultimate goal is, would make this reboot stand out from the rest.
Want to watch The Blair With Project for the first time or just to rewatch and relive the horrors? The movie is streaming on Prime Video, it is rated R for language and frightening, intense scenes. It stars Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard, and Michael C. Williams.
