A season finale of a TV series often brings changes to the cast. That’s especially the case as we get up there in the numbers. The 911 season 7 finale had us concerned about some exiting cast members.

Of course, our main fears were about Bobby. Would he survive the fire, and would he stick around after that considering he’d decided to retire? Would anyone else consider leaving?

Caution: This post contains major spoilers from the 911 season 7 finale.

It turned out that it wasn’t Bobby that we had to worry too much about. The cast change comes from a different storyline. It was all connected to Eddie.

Eddie dealt with the aftermath of the Kim situation

The finale kicked off with us finding out how Christopher and Marisol were dealing with seeing Eddie with Kim. Well, more like Christopher. He locked himself in his room, and it turned out that he’d called Eddie’s parents, his grandparents.

Of course, Eddie’s parents flew to Los Angeles for their grandson. They remained for a while to help figure out the situation, but it was soon clear that Christopher needed something that Eddie couldn’t give him. He needed time and space to deal with feeling like he had lost his mom all over again. He needed to feel safe, and the only place that could happen was with his grandparents.

Christopher left for Texas in the 911 season 7 finale

Eddie didn’t want to let his son go at first. It’s a natural parental reaction. You want your children around you and fix the bonds that have broken. It took Eddie’s parents and Buck to help him realize that he had to do the best thing for Christopher at this point.

And so, Eddie made it clear to Christopher that he always had a home in Los Angeles. Eddie still loved him, and Eddie wasn’t angry with him for wanting to leave. This does open the door for Christopher to return in the future.

Eddie isn’t leaving, though. He’s remaining in LA as he figures out what to do next. Ryan Guman talked to The Hollywood Reporter about what this means, and there is a lot to come for Eddie in 911 season 8. Eddie has now realized that he’s not the best part of Christopher’s life anymore, and that hurts. In fact, it crushes Eddie, and he has to figure out how to deal with that. How do you deal with that knowledge as a parent?

"I think there is a full acknowledgement that Eddie is not the best part of Christopher’s life anymore, that he does not offer the best and healthiest version for Christopher anymore. That’s not only crushing to Eddie, but now the acceptance of that fact is something that I don’t think Eddie has really leaned into [yet]. We will explore it in season eight."

What a way to end the season! Now we’re ready for the return of the series in the fall.
