Following an extended hiatus caused by the Hollywood strikes of 2023, 911: Lone Star will finally return for a new season on Monday, September 23 on FOX, but it seems the upcoming fifth season will indeed be the show’s last.

Speculation about the show's future began when FOX opted not to bring the show back as part of the 2023-24 season, and instead decided to hold the season for the 2024-25 season. The good news is that a new season is finally coming as FOX confirmed the show is coming back for a 12-episode season this September as part of its fall line-up. The bad news is that it seems the show’s time at FOX is coming to an end.

While FOX has yet to comment on the rumors that have been circulating for months, the network has seemingly confirmed that 911: Lone Star has indeed been canceled and will be ending with its forthcoming fifth season. The confirmation came via a new TV spot that has begun airing on FOX affiliate stations that promotes the upcoming season as being the “Final Season” of the first responder show. Seeing the promo for the new season promoting the forthcoming season as the final season definitely seems to hint that the show is indeed coming to a close which isn’t at all surprising at this point.

Rumors about the show’s future began swirling when Deadline reported in early June that several series regulars had begun looking for new work following news that original star Sierra McClain was exiting the series and would not return for the final season.

According to the report, the cast’s contracts ended with the conclusion of production on July 19 and it was hinted that FOX would have to make a decision on the show’s future before production ended. While no decision was publicly announced timed to the end of filming on the season, it seems FOX has indeed decided not to bring the show back for a sixth season and approached the fifth season as a closing chapter to the show.

Although FOX has yet to comment on the cancellation and seems to be pulling back on the TV spot that featured the final season branding, the cat is out of the bag on this one and it appears 911: Lone Star is coming to a close with season 5.

It’ll be interesting to see how the show wraps up and also whether any of the show’s cast might eventually make the leap from 911: Lone Star over to the franchise’s flagship series, 911, which moved to ABC last season after its cancelation on FOX. Given the shows are produced by the same company, it seems possible ABC could look to bring some of the 911: Lone Star cast into the mix should 911 continue beyond its upcoming eighth season which seems likely given the success the show has continued to enjoy since making the move to ABC.
