911 fans are getting ready for the move to a new network, but now they have to prepare for a change in the episode count! Just how many episodes are coming for season 7?

TV was already looking at a state of flux in May of 2023 due to the WGA strike with the SAG strike on the horizon. But it was a shock when Fox announced that 911 was canceled and in the same breath, ABC was picking it up. 

Like all shows, production was delayed by the strikes, but it is set to premiere on March 14. It looks like a wild start as the three-part premiere has Bobby and Athena taking a cruise only for the ship to be hit by pirates, a storm, and a sinking, with the rest of the team racing to save them. 

With a new network and a bigger budget, 911 season 7 appears ready to pay off on the long wait. So, just how many episodes are in the new season in its new home? Here's what we know!

911 season 7 episode count

In a big story about the show in Entertainment Weekly, co-creator Tim Minear discussed the plans for the season, from the big premiere to Chimney and Maddie’s wedding, and praised ABC for allowing them to do an “almost Year One approach” to the show.

The article also confirmed there are only 10 episodes in season 7. This shouldn’t be a surprise given the long delay from the strikes and ABC wanting to hold back its Thursday night lineup until mid-March. There’s also the huge FX budget needed for the show that forced the cutback of a normal 18-episode season that the series usually has.

That makes this the shortest season for 911 since its inaugural one as a mid-season show in early 2018. The second-shortest run was season 4, which had 14 episodes due to the pandemic cutting production shorter. The bigger news is that this year will have the show's landmark 100th episode, which is sure to be a big event for the series.

10 episodes may seem like a low number for the show, but it does match other ABC series premiering now. It also means less chance of reruns interrupting the flow and a strong run of episodes until May. It doesn’t look like they’re skimping out on the action or drama and thus the short run could pay off well for fans.
