A key All American: Homecoming character makes his exit in season 3 but to an unexpected place
All American: Homecoming kicked off its final season with a time jump and a big character departure! So is this character gone for good?
Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for All American: Homecoming Season 3 premiere
Like the mothership All American show, Homecoming addressed the long delay between seasons 2 and 3 by jumping ahead almost a year in time. It opened by revealing that Simone had chosen Damon and the pair were having a good romance.
Things looked to be going great for everyone only for word to come down that Bringston was going to be “rebranding” and focusing more on education than athletics. That meant one sports program was going to be on the chopping block.
The good news was that thanks to a big donation from a returning Coco Gauff, the tennis team was safe. The bad news, however, centered on the baseball team being cut, despite winning a championship. Worse, Coach Marcus had known for a while this was coming and never told the team so they could focus on winning the title, which he hoped would convince the board to change their minds. Damon was ticked at his coach, and it turned out Marcus and Amara were still over, as she didn’t forgive him for not telling her he’d been married.
Damon was obviously more upset as without another year of college, he might not be eligible to join the MLB. Thankfully, an option came in, but at a cost.
Is Damon leaving All American: Homecoming?
Thanks to work from Jesse, Damon got a chance to go pro after all. The downside? It was for a team in the Dominican Republic. While Damon hoped to keep their relationship going, Simone knew he had to focus on his baseball career first.
Another time jump took us a year ahead with Simone now in junior year and notably she, Nate and Keisha were living in Amara’s apartment. This connected to an earlier plot point where Amara revealed she’d been offered a big position in Washington D.C. where she'd serve on the vice president’s HBCU committee while maintaining her duties as Bringston’s president.
These plots are all part of the cast shifts needed for season 3’s renewal, as Peyton Alex Smith and Kelly Jenrette have been bumped down to recurring status, while Martin Bobb-Semple (Lando) is now a series regular.
The time jump will likely be explored more in the coming episodes to show if Simone and Damon have continued their relationship, if Amara is still at Bringston and just what the status is of the college with its new direction. Thus, All American: Homecoming is kicking off season 3 with a lot of changes that should make its final year notable for fans.
All American: Homecoming airs Mondays at 8/7c on The CW.
