Abbott Elementary is currently one of my top favorite comedies and shows on television! It has heart, challenges, and the sarcasm that comes from each of the characters is always so on point. It makes me laugh so much. That's why I'm sure many of you are like me, and constantly look forward to a new episode each week. Unfortunately though, it's not happening tonight. And actually, Abbott Elementary season 3 will be taking a break for the next couple of weeks.
Abbott Elementary returns with a new episode on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC. Installments are also available to stream on Hulu the next day. In season 3 episode 9, "Alex," Jacob finds out his fellow teachers haven't been paying attention to his "frequent email messages," not writing their own replies, per the synopsis. And this comes as a surprise to him. Elsewhere, Gregory needs help with a former student and he goes to Janine (Quinta Brunson) for assistance. Unfortunately no images or a promo have been shared yet.
There isn't an exact reason as to why the sitcom is taking a two week break, though it's likely due to the network wanting all its shows to air their season finales around the same time in May. With the writers and actors strikes delaying productions and the 2023 fall TV schedule, ABC wants to get back on track. And that definitely makes sense.
Season 3 of Abbott has a total of 14 episodes. With the number of installments and time we have left after this break, episodes should be coming out weekly with no more interruptions. Perhaps there might be one more week off before the last episode of the season, depending on when ABC decides to air the season finale. For broadcast TV fans, this isn't anything new. We're used to the networks taking breaks here and there. We'll just have to be a bit patient!
So that does mean there will not be a new episode of Abbott tonight, March 27, 2024. ABC is also skipping on another installment on April 3. Instead, the network is airing reruns on both days. This evening, you can rewatch season 3 episode 5, "Breakup." Then next week, ABC has the seventh episode of the season, "Librarian," lined up.
Last week's episode was a really fun one, especially with the basketball cold open! The story sees Tariq back, appointing himself the president of the school's PTA. Gregory and Ava are invited to take part in an education panel about public schools, which Tariq hosts. And we meet a nemesis of Ava's, which is just amusing to watch.
Back at the school, the other teachers need to complete CPR training. And that brings some revelations. Melissa is dating someone new but hasn't told Barbara, which upsets her friend. Plus, Jacob has a new man in his life, the assistant CPR instructor. Finally, Janine and Manny run around trying to save her library program as she needs district approval to extend it.
By the end of the episode, we see just how much Janine misses being in the classroom and her kids. Will she stick to her work at the district, or decide to leave? I have very mixed feelings about this storyline. I like that Janine is doing something different and so there's a new element to the story this season. Though I also miss seeing her in the classroom and as a teacher. It's where she thrives. Though Janine is also doing some great work and bringing innovative ideas to the district as well. And she could play a hand at making some real change. Gah, it's so hard! What's going to happen? I'm so excited to find out.
Abbott Elementary returns Wednesday, April 10, 2024 on ABC!
