Abbott Elementary season 4: Everything we know so far

Abbott Elementary has quickly become a genre-defining classic series. With its quick wit and relatable pop-culture references, it's no surprise that the mockumentary has been nominated for several awards and won many, including recent wins at the 2024 Golden Globes and the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.

The third season of Abbott Elementary is quickly coming to a close, with the season finale airing on May 22. This has fans waiting in anticipation of what's to come for the series.

Is there a season 4 of Abbott Elementary?

YES! Days before the season 3 premiere, Mr. Johnson, portrayed by William Stanford Davis, announced the series would return for a fourth season. This announcement was made during ABC’s presentation at the Television Critics Association’s Winter 2024 press tour. Fans of the series aren't surprised that the show was renewed and can't wait to find out what's to come.

Expected cast for season 4

The series wouldn't be the same without the return of the main cast which includes Quinta Brunson, the show's creator, as Janine Teagues. She is expected to be joined by Janelle James as Ava Coleman, Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barbara Howard, Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie, Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa Schemmenti, Chris Perfetti as Jacob Hill, and above mentioned William Stanford Davis as Mr. Johnson.

Season 3 saw the introduction of a few new faces, including Josh Segarra as Manny, Kimia Behpoornia as Emily, and Benjamin Norris as Simon.

The series is known for its guest stars which have included Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce, and Brandon Graham with Leslie Odom Jr. as Draemond Winding and Zack Fox as Tariq. Taraji Henson and Ayo Edebiri have also made guest appearances as Janine's momther and sister, respectively. Who will appear in season 4? We will have to wait and see.

Expected episode count for season 4

With a renewal ahead of the season premiere, writers were able to get back to the storyline right away. What does this mean for the expected episode count? Not a lot, but the first and third seasons consisted of 13 and 14 episodes, respectively, and season 2 had a whopping 22. If that trend continues, we could see a larger episode count in season 4, although no announcement has been made regarding the number for the next season.

An early renewal always gives creators a longer period to prepare for filming and can be a good thing as far as introducing new characters and more guest stars.

Expected release window for season 4

Abbott Elementary creators have done an outstanding job of releasing seasons close together. There has been no official announcement of a release date for season 4, but season 2 was released just four months after the first season ended. Season 2 concluded in April 2023, and the third season debuted less than a year later, in February 2024. This means fans may have less than a year to wait for the upcoming season as it's expected the series will make a Fall 2024 premiere for its fourth season.
