All American had an interesting journey for season 6. It appeared to have a near-perfect ending after 13 episodes as Spencer was recruited into the NFL, won the Super Bowl in his rookie season, and proposed to his girlfriend Olivia. However, The CW decided to give the producers an additional three episodes so the season finale ended with Spencer and Olivia getting married.

This ties into how Daniel Ezra has announced his plans to leave the show. Also in the finale, Laura gave the Baker house to Jordan and Layla, Patience decided to embark on her performing career and Coop was choosing what law school to attend.

Thus, we had the perfect sendoff for Spencer’s journey as he can continue his NFL career. This has led to the idea season 7 will be a “soft reboot” of the show and The CW has confirmed it as season 7 will bring the show back to its roots.

"All American is taking it back to where it all began: Beverly Hills High and South Crenshaw High. It’s the same heart, same NFL dream, same crosstown rivalry, same messy hormones, ushered in by a new generation of L.A. teens, a new Beverly coach and our OG Vortex fam, who are surprised to find they’re supposed to be the responsible adults now."

So who is coming in and who is out of season 7? Here's what we know.

Who’s leaving All American?

Per TVLine, a whopping five cast members are exiting the show: Samantha Logan (Olivia), Cody Christian (Asher), Karimah Westbrook (Grace James), Monet Mazur (Laura Baker) and Chelsea Tavares (Patience).

All of their characters make sense for not returning. Olivia will be following Spencer to New York and their new lives together. Asher is ready to embark on his own career as a coach. Laura is likewise moving onto a new life and Patience is concentrating on her music career.

Thus, each character has a good excuse for not returning for season 7, although it’s hinted that some may pop up for a guest appearance.

Who’s coming back?

It looks like just three core cast members are returning: Michael Evans Behling (Jordan), Greta Onieogou (Layla) and Bre-Z (Coop). Also, Antonio J. Bell (Khalil) and Alexis Chikaeze (Amina) have been upped to series regulars.

It appears Jordan and Layla are going to be the focus of the new series. Jordan is working at Crenshaw, and he and Layla are ready to start a new family. Coop looks to have picked a local college and is working to get her law degree. It may be jarring to see them picking up the slack of so many absences but at least continuing the show’s run.

Who’s new for All American season 7?

TVLine reports that a few new characters are coming in. Osy Ikhile will play Cassius Jeremy, Beverly High’s new football coach. Described as “a family man and a tough coach, Coach Jeremy has freshly relocated from Oakland, and he’s determined to bring Beverly football back to its former glory, which means taking down South Crenshaw High’s program by any means necessary.”

Nathaniel McIntyre (David Makes Man) will co-star as Kingston Jeremy (aka KJ), Coach Jeremy’s son and Beverly High’s newly transferred quarterback who is singularly focused on playing for the NFL.

It’s likely we’ll see more cast members introduced who will build a brand new cast of characters at both schools and give the show a new life. So it’s both a farewell and a new beginning for All American that hopefully lets the hit show continue for a while longer.

All American seasons 1-6 are streaming on Netflix.
