All American wrapped up season 6 with a goodbye to Spencer James but also an ending paving the way for a major shift in season 7! Find out more here!

Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for the All American season 6 finale

The finale of season 6 had Spencer and Olivia in a frenzy when their planned wedding venue was ruined by sewage. Having wanted her dream wedding, Olivia was frantic trying to change it and even briefly considered just eloping at the courthouse.

Luckily, Spencer came through by arranging a special ceremony at his childhood home. The couple then got a surprise wedding reception arranged at the basketball court with a lot of old friends dropping by. A wonderful bit was several local folks Spencer had helped over the years thanking him and showing how strong he’s become.

It was not only a capper for the Spencer/Olivia relationship but a farewell to Daniel Ezra, who announced he’ll be leaving the show. It’s now logical that Spencer will be continuing his NFL career with showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll telling TVLine that making sure to get the two extra episodes for the wedding was vital.

"The whole reason we asked Warner Bros. and The CW for an additional two episodes was because I wanted to do the wedding. And I wanted to have two episodes dedicated to paying homage to the journey that ‘Spelivia’ had been on, and what it takes to finally get them to the altar… Everyone was so supportive of me telling this story the way I wanted to tell it that they gave us the additional two episodes to do it."

In other character news, Coop got offers from both Yale and GAU and had to decide which one to attend; Laura gifted the deed to the house to Jordan and Layla, and Jordan got a job as an assistant coach at Crenshaw High.

However, during the reception, Jordan confronted his grandfather GW about a photo he’d found of a baby he didn’t recognize. At first cagey, GW confessed that before he and Jordan’s grandmother met, she’d had a child with another man. In short, that baby was Jordan’s secret uncle.

This was a big turn and will lead to more questions. Obviously, the big questions are the identity of Jordan’s uncle, whether he and Billy knew about each other, and where he is. Carroll told TVLine that it will play into season 7.

"We will definitely have answers to some of those questions that get raised for Jordan. [It] will absolutely be part of the storylines in season 7."

Clearly, Jordan will want to get to know about any new family members but the question is if this other man is as open to it. It’s possible the guy has no idea about Billy or an extended family and may not be open to a reunion. Jordan still mourns his father so trying to find his unknown brother is a critical plot point that should work next season.

Jordan will have to adjust to the changes

A major issue is how Jordan (who’s had his problems in the past) will handle the discovery as well as so many changes. He now has the family house in his name, which is a big responsibility while still balancing his life with Layla. He’s also going to be trying (perhaps too hard) to fill his dad’s footsteps at Crenshaw. It’s too easy to imagine Jordan trying to copy his dad from attitude to outfits rather than be his own man.

All American is set to return to a teen focus for season 7, but it's quite likely that Jordan will continue to have a lead role in the series while coaching a new generation of players. It's a big move but also makes sense for the character and will hopefully continue to provide some great drama.

All American season 7 could see more cast exits

Another big question is if any other cast members are going to follow Ezra in leaving the show. It’s logical that Olivia will move with Spencer to New York, so it’s likely Samantha Logan could be leaving the show, too. Yet she may pop up in a few brief appearances to chime in on Spencer’s progress.

Bre-Z is also an unknown as the ending of Coop choosing a law school would be a good way to write off the character concentrating on her legal career. Layla may be sticking around as she's still building her record business while Asher is uncertain depending on where he lands as a coach.

How the soft reboot could work

With Ezra and likely a couple other characters gone, the stage is set for a “soft reboot” of the show. It makes sense with Jordan now coaching at Crenshaw, following in his dad’s footsteps and introducing a slew of new characters. There’s a risk it replays old plot points on team dynamics and hopefully the show doesn’t just introduce a “Spencer 2.0” but a more original character.

A dramatic turn could be one player turns out to be the son of Billy’s brother, making him Jordan’s cousin. That would be fun as the family dynamics have always played well into the series and lead to more bonding with Jordan and his uncle.

It can be tricky yet the potential is there as Spencer could be seen as an idol by some younger players and Jordan tries to help them out. It’ll be a nice turn that can give the show new life and prove All American is more than just Spencer’s story.

At the moment, fans are happy simply to see All American end Spencer’s journey in a great way and make viewers more excited to see season 7 come about.

All American season 6 is coming to Netflix on Tuesday, July 23.
